𝗔𝗙𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗡 𝗦𝗖𝗛𝗢𝗢𝗟 𝗢𝗙 𝗣𝗛𝗬𝗦𝗜𝗖𝗦 (𝗔𝗦𝗣): A HUB FOR SCIENCE ADVOCACY IN AFRICA
Attending 𝗔𝗦𝗣 𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟴 𝗶𝗻 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗵𝗼𝗲𝗸, 𝗡𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗮 was indeed a turning point in the academic journey of the founder of Science Catalysis, Nkuiate Harris Sop, and many others who were present.
They had the opportunity to 𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 with African’s finest scientists, diplomats, and students from all over Africa.
The school aims at building the capacity of African students in fundamental physics and its application. This year’s 𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝗹𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗮 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮.

𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗗𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗟𝗢𝗣𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗦𝗧𝗨𝗗𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗦
Growth is a holistic process! And not everything is taught in school.
You do not have to finish ‘school’ before you start developing yourself
A friend of mine missed an opportunity to attend a prominent international conference because of lack of 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁. Another one lost a job opportunity due to no 𝗖𝗩. And the list continues.
It is possible to have all these if you plan well. Start 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗻𝗼𝘄 before you be found wanting when opportunities start coming.
“Failing to prepare is preparing to fail,” they say. 𝗗𝗼 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴!!!
Get to us if you need help with any of these.

SCIENCE ADVOCACY FOSTERS ACCESS TO OPPORTUNITIES
The APTS training at the University of Durham that lasted for five days, with students from UK’s top universities, was breath-taking.
Talking with Miss Char from Cambridge and Mr. Dan from Oxford and other students from UCL, Manchester, Edinburg, Glasgow, etc. changed my perspectives about these universities. Attending the same lectures with them made it even more interesting.
We all have infinite potentials deposited in us by God, and can thrive when given the right environment.
Join Science Catalysis as we empower the study of science through different activities. Be a CATALYST for science.

Happy International Day of Education
Why is this classroom empty when the other one is filled with students? Is it that they don’t have money to buy facemasks? “Monday is a ‘ghost town’ and students are not allowed to go to school,” she said with utter despair.
Studying in a crisis region and developing country is HARD, for there are myriads of challenges. As such, we must put our hands together to make education better in our community. We all have a role to play!!!
On this day, we want to appreciate and encourage all those that are tirelessly fighting for quality education in Cameroon. We think of , , Fomengia Foundation, Dreams, , -Hightech, Generation Technologies Ltd, Build Lives International, and many others.
Today, Science Catalysis re-affirms her commitment to actively support students to study quality science.

SUPPORTIVE TEACHING, A TOOL FOR SCIENCE ADVOCACY
A study by Brian E. Woolnough shows that supportive mathematics teaching in schools helps students to choose careers in sciences. Due to poor mathematics background and other reasons, some students in the life science departments at the university of Buea struggle with a course called MAT 211.
Their struggles are not often due to lack of seriousness or intelligence, for they excel in other courses, but rather because of poor background.
For these science lovers to remain in sciences, they must be helped! Motivated by this study, Science Catalysis has been organizing free tutorials for students facing challenges in this course for four months (124 students reached) which consummated with a revision class on Sunday 16, 2022 from 1 p.m. to 5p.m. in the university of Buea.
We wish our empowered students success as the face this ‘giant’ tomorrow.

International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development, 2022
Like never before, 2019 to 2021 have opened our eyes to the see the value of basic sciences in making our world better. Floods, droughts, Covid-19, wildfires, hurricanes, cyclones, food scarcity, among others that threatened human existence were mitigated and curbed with the help of basic sciences.
The discovery of Covid-19 vaccines, lunching of the James web telescope, near-true forecast of our climate system and so on are promising signs that our world would be even better in the future.
As we enter the year 2022, which is dedicated to basic sciences by UNESCO, we call on the whole world to collaborate with us—scientists to make our world a better place. You can do this by encouraging young people and girls/women in science, funding research, supporting advocacy initiatives, etc.

BUILDING CLIMATE-READY BUEA
The effects of climate change are ubiquitous. In a city like Buea, these are manifested by increased temperatures, aberrant rainfalls, disappearance of streams, proliferation of mosquitos, among others.
Since these challenges affect all of us, we urge everyone to contribute to the mitigations and adaptations plans put in place by scientists.
Join us on Chariot FM on November 10 at 7a.m. as we discuss how we can build a climate-ready Buea.
