20 Jahre Jackpot!

Unglaublich wie die Zeit vergeht…
Vor 20 stiegen Pascal und ich ins Flugzeug – dabei meine Gitarre und die Songs für mein erstes Solo-Album «moments to dwell».

Zu dieser Zeit hörte ich Elliott Smith rauf und runter, daher unser Ziel – Portland, Oregon.
Im Jackpot! Studio hat Elliott Smith zusammen mit seinem Freund und Produzenten Larry Crane diverse Songs und Alben aufgenommen.

Für knapp drei Wochen konnten wir bei Larry leben und im Jackpot! das Album aufnehmen.
Die Zeit war für mich ein auf und ab von Gefühlen – Aufregung, Nervosität, Freude, Angst, Stress und zwischendurch fast schon kleine Nervenkrisen.

Aber wir packten es – nicht zuletzt wegen Pascals grosser Hilfe und Larrys Professionalität – und mit der coolsten Schlagzeugerin – Rachel Blumberg.
Gemastert habe ich das Album auch gleich in Portland bei Jeff Stuart Saltzman.

Rückblickend bin ich glücklich und sehr erleichtert darüber, dass ich diesen Schritt gewagt habe und alles auf diese Karte gesetzt habe. Es kostete mich viel Mut, Zeit und Geld – aber es hat sich tausendmal gelohnt!

20 years of Jackpot!

It’s unbelievable how time flies…
Twenty years ago, Pascal and I boarded a plane – with my guitar and the songs for my first solo album, ‘moments to dwell’.

At the time, I was listening to Elliott Smith on repeat, which is why our destination was Portland, Oregon.
Elliott Smith recorded various songs and albums at Jackpot! Studio together with his friend and producer Larry Crane.

For just under three weeks, we were able to stay with Larry and record the album at Jackpot!
For me, that time was a rollercoaster of emotions – excitement, nervousness, joy, fear, stress and, in between, almost mini nervous breakdowns.

But we pulled it off – not least thanks to Pascal’s huge help and Larry’s professionalism – and with the coolest drummer – Rachel Blumberg.
I also had the album mastered straight away in Portland by Jeff Stuart Saltzman.

Looking back, I’m happy and very relieved that I took this step and put all my eggs in one basket. It cost me a lot of courage, time and money – but it was worth it a thousand times over!

So begann es…
Im Herbst 2006 war ich zusammen mit Pascal Perrot im Wallis um die Vorproduktion meines ersten Soloalbums «moments to dwell» aufzunehmen. Wir hatten viel vor:
Als damals grosser Elliott Smith – Fan hatte ich das Glück, dass ich im 2006 bei Elliotts Produzent Larry Crane in Portland meine CD aufnehmen konnte.

Mit dieser Vorproduktion gewann ich damals den Regio Sound Credit des RFVs in Basel.

Hier der RFV – Text:
«Hinter dem Namen Dew steht die Sängerin und Gitarristin Nicole Schelker, eine der wenigen weiblichen Vertreterinnen der Basler Musikszene, die seit mehreren Jahren kontinuierlich an ihrer Karriere arbeitet. Zwei inoffizielle LP-Veröffentlichungen und zahlreiche Konzerte bescherten «Dew» eine treue Fangemeinde und den Respekt der Musikszene. Bereits zu Beginn ihrer Laufbahn im Jahr 2000 trat die Sängerin auch im Ausland - Glastonbury (GB) - auf. Sie engagierte sich später neben ihrer Solokarriere unter anderem im Videoprojekt «celebration for breaking routine» und als Backupsängerin bei der Gruppe «Stereotype». Die sich eröffnende Chance, ihre neue Produktion mit dem Musikproduzenten Larry Crane (The Walkabouts, Sleater-Kinney, Cat Power, Elliot Smith) und Mitproduzenten und Musiker Pascal Perrot «Welken» zu realisieren, veranlasste «Dew» zur Teilnahme am «RegioSoundCredit».»

This is how it all began...
In the fall of 2006, I was in Valais with Pascal Perrot to record the pre-production for my first solo album, “moments to dwell.” We had big plans:
As a huge Elliott Smith fan at the time, I was lucky enough to be able to record my CD in 2006 with Elliott's producer Larry Crane in Portland.

With this pre-production, I won the Regio Sound Credit of the RFV in Basel.

Here is the RFV text:
“Behind the name Dew is singer and guitarist Nicole Schelker, one of the few female representatives of the Basel music scene who has been working continuously on her career for several years. Two unofficial LP releases and numerous concerts have earned ”Dew" a loyal fan base and the respect of the music scene. At the beginning of her career in 2000, the singer also performed abroad – at Glastonbury (GB). In addition to her solo career, she later became involved in the video project “celebration for breaking routine” and as a backup singer for the group “Stereotype.” The opportunity to realize her new production with music producer Larry Crane (The Walkabouts, Sleater-Kinney, Cat Power, Elliot Smith) and co-producer and musician Pascal Perrot “Welken” prompted ‘Dew’ to participate in “RegioSoundCredit.”
