Subject: Annual Report of Vars Academia for the period 10th November, 2019 to 30th November, 2020
From: The Directors
To: The Board
Date: 10th November, 2020
Introduction:
This presentation is the third annual report of Vars Academia Limited for the period 10th November, 2019 to 30th November, 2020, for public consumption. The first and second annual reports, which covered the periods 1st October 2017 to 30th November 2018 and 1st November 2019 and 30th November, 2019, respectively, have already been submitted. This current report presents the work and activities accomplished by Vars Academia during the period under review.
Follow up on possible collaborative work with Copperbelt University Africa Center of Excellency for Sustainable Mining (CBU-ACESM):
This was done between November,2020 to December, 2020, through contacts with CBU-ACESM staff. The position was that the Center will still get back to VARS to see how VARS could establish rapport and a working relationship with CBU-ACESM, especially in the area of curriculum.
Lectureships:
As per Vars Academia policies, Vars Academia Limited staff conducted some lectureships in between November 2019 and November, 2020, at some key universities in order to help these universities with teaching and research needs. Vars is open to such opportunities for her staff.
Project Research Assistance and Scholastic Writing:
Between November, 2020 and November, 2019, as per Vars Academia policies, her staff did render continued supervisory support assistance in the formulation of project proposals, in the writing of project research papers and with regard to scholastic writing to individual students at studying for various academic programs in various universities and colleges.
Contacts with Copperstone University:
In July, 2020, Vars Academia directors had a crucial meeting in which Copperstone University invited Vars to their Baluba Campus and declared their intention to have the two lead Directors work with them on ‘flexible terms basis’.
Follow up on Contact with Office of the District Education Officer (DEBS) Kitwe:
Following a visit to Office of the District Education Officer (DEBS) Kitwe by Vars staff in September, 2019, for the purpose of introducing Vars Academia to the DEBS office, it was noted that Vars has been waiting for instructions from DEBs office for her to proceed with capacity-building workshops/seminars for focused groups.
Project Proposals Update:
Following the completion of various project proposals, it was agreed that these projects be followed up expeditiously in the coming business year. These are namely:
1. The VVIP project
2. History of Zambia in 6 Volumes project
3. Project proposal on reading works on the basis of ‘Private Public Partnership’
4. Project proposal on public artistic and literary works
Vars has already worked out the required financial capitals to begin the projects and is now looking for funding to ‘kick start’ these key projects.
The Covid 19 Challenge:
Covid 19 challenge was by far the most difficult challenge which was faced by VARS ACADEMIA, Between March, 2020 to October, 2020, all learning institutions (places where Vars Academia conducts her business) were either closed or had very reduced contact opportunities, to enable VARS ACADEMIA to do adequately conduct her business.
Successes and Failures:
Vars Academia Limited appreciates positive ‘gleanings’ in the period under review, for example: survival in harsh business environments; and on how to handle business adversity. However, the period under review was riddled by lost business opportunities in learning institutions for Vars Academia. This was because of economic and business adversity due to the Covid 19 Challenge which reduced work in learning institutions by almost 90%, a situation impacted negatively on small business such as Vars Academia, leading to the loss of business opportunities and expected incomes by almost 90%. The extremely harsh business environment in the year under review, coupled with other circumstances beyond the control of VARS, have made Vars Academia not to fulfill her ‘lined up’ activities for the period under review. However, it is a sanguine hope of Vars Academia that this failure will be addressed in the coming financial year, December, 2020 to November, 2021, where the company is expected to thrive due to business potentiality and opportunity.
Conclusion:
Through these activities, Vars Academia Limited has, yet again, grown in her business life in order to face business challenges in the coming year. Vars is resolutely resolved to stay afloat and continue on her positive path until she ‘breaks even’ and ‘take off’ towards a more prosperous, more stable and more sustainable future.
We thank you.

Successes and Failures:
The activities of period under review have given a ‘substantial boost’ to Vars Academia Limited which, in turn, has made her to succeed in terms of understanding the business environment better, making some money, assessing the our clientele better and establishing continuous self-evaluation towards seamless and perfect deliverables, concomitant with aims, objectives and values of Vars. However, due to a harsh business environment in the year 2019 and inconsistences in paying for services and for debts by some clients, Vars failed to recruit staff, to purchase additional utilities, to implement outstanding company projects and to improve on its physical administrative facilities and fixtures. It is hoped that this failure will be addressed in the coming year.

Corona Virus, here I come:
The lessons from the global pandemic Covid-19 are very clear for all, especially for those of us who live in struggling small economies:
1. A high sense of cleanliness, safety and health lifestyles at home, at school, in our offices, in our industries, in our markets, in our streets, in our small shops, in our shopping malls, in our means and networks of transport, in our communities, every where and at all times, must be part and parcel of daily bread and daily ethos;
2. Those who wilfully promote dirty, unsafe and unhealthy lifestyles, be cautioned or prosecuted by authorities, whatever the case might be.
