‘Stop blaming Ajimobi for your failure’
April 8, 2020
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has urged Governor Seyi Makinde to stop blaming his predecessor, Abiola Ajimobi and disparaging Federal Government’s efforts to contain COVID-19.
The party said the governor should instead accept his incompetence and failure to deliver on his campaign promises.
APC, in a statement by the state Chairman, Chief Akin Oke, praised Nigerians and President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration for the decisive actions taken to mitigate the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic, despite the scarce resources and inherent challenges.
The party said that the relative curtailment of COVID-19 was as a result of some proactive measures put in place by the Federal Government and some state governors who have proved to be competent enough.
“COVID-19 took the whole world by storm, as it has claimed several thousands of lives in super power nations such as China, United States, United Kingdom, Spain and Italy, while Nigeria has a record of five deaths and less than 250 cases with 25 recoveries as at now in spite of a huge population of about 200 million people.
As a member of the global community, it would have been extremely difficult for Nigeria to prevent the virus from coming in and this makes it imperative to appreciate governments at all levels and the citizenry on the feat recorded.
Makinde had alleged that the health facility converted to infection and diseases control centre in Olodo, Ibadan was left in bad shape by his predecessor. The facility was built by the Ajimobi administration.
He also accused the Federal Government of insincerity in its cash transfer to the poor as a palliative for the COVID-19-induced economic hardship.
It is on this premise that we are calling for more concerted efforts from the Governor Makinde administration to raise its game and ensure that no stone is unturned in a bid protect the people from further spread.

Zamfara: Troops Kill 100 Bandits, Recover Several Items by Datelineng
At least 100 bandits have been killed by the troops of Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) in Zamfara and parts of Katsina State between December 2019 and January 2020, the Acting Force Information Officer, Captain Ayobami Oni-Orisan, has said.
Oni-Orisan said in a statement to journalists in Gusau on Saturday that troops comprising personnel of the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Air Force, Nigeria Police, Department of State Services and others conducted several clearance operations to neutralise bandits who refused to repent.
“So far, OPHD troops have flushed out bandits hibernating around Tashar Kuturu, Dankalgo, Gobirawa junction, Bagega, Kawaye, Duhuwa, Sabon-Birni, Dankurmi, Dangulbi, Hayin Bawa, Zango, Unguwar Shanu, Tundu Mali, Magazu, Mayanchi and Gando forest, in Anka, Talata Mafara, Tsafe, Maru and Bukkuyum Local Government areas of Zamfara.
“Additionally, OPHD ground troops backed by the fighter jets of the Air Component also cleared Shinfida in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State, neutralising several bandits in the process,” he said.
The information officer said the renewed use of force against the bandits followed their refusal to embrace the peace process introduced by Gov. Bello Matawalle of Zamfara about six months ago as well as the recent upsurge of the bandits in the affected areas.
He said during the operations, 10 kidnap victims were rescued, while 500 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition 23 Motorbikes, 15 AK 47 rifles, four General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG), one PKM Machine Gun, one Rocket Propelled Gr***de (RPG) bomb, one Rocket Propelled Gr***de (RPG) tube, 11 fully loaded magazines, 600 rustled cows and 300 rustled sheep were recovered.
He further said that during the clearance operations, the troops in collaboration with the Defence Forces of Niger Republic apprehended a high profile gunrunner, popularly known as “Kunene” who wa
El-Rufai: I Will Not Release El-Zakzaky So Long I’m Governor by dre11(m): 3:24pm On Jan 11
‘So long as I’m Kaduna governor, no amount of pressure will make me release El-Zakzaky
The governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, says he would not bow to pressure to release Shi’ite leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.
The governor spoke on Friday night in a live radio interview monitored by DAILY NIGERIAN in Abuja.
Mr El-Rufai said the state government went tough on the Shi’ite leader because the people of Kaduna state suffered under Mr El-Zakzaky’s excesses.
“We agree [his fate is in our hands] but with a correction. The fate of El-Zakzaky is not in the hands of Kaduna State Government but the Kaduna State High Court. What the federal government means here is that it did not charge El-Zakzaky to court. The federal government detained him in Abuja after the [Zaria] crisis.
“While El-Zakzaky was in detention in Abuja, we sat down and conducted investigations on the atrocities, crimes, infringement of rights he and his followers committed in the last 30 years in Zaria.
“After the conclusion of the investigation, we requested the federal government to hand him over to us for trial in Kaduna.
“The clamour for the release of El-Zakzaky was not directed at us but the federal government. Since we took him to court nobody asked us to release him.
“And we will not release him until court he is cleared by the court. It was Kaduna State High Court that ordered for his detention in the Kaduna prison.
“He was the one who requested that he be detained by the SSS not prison. If a person is awaiting trial, he is normally remanded in prison custody. But he opted for the SSS detention facility where he will not suffer.
“Since the SSS is detaining him without the order of the court, our lawyers sought order from the court for El-Zakzaky to be taken back to prison.
“As we speak now, Sheikh El-Zakzaky and his wife are in Kaduna prison, and they will remain there till the end of their trial.
