Well that’s a first for me. Cutting down some Maple Burl and deep in the wood I found a bullet. I wonder how long it’s been in the tree, might have to see if I can salvage this for a unique project!
A night in the tumbler with corn cob media gives my favourite blade finish. Almost a mirror but matte from some angles, definitely my favourite look for a kitchen blade
Gotta keep machines in tip top shape. I frequently machine my belt grinder components to keep them running true, it makes a huge difference in how efficient and precise you can grind if your components are trued up regularly.
This component is the backing for the sanding belts when I grind my bevels, and I typically grind it flat weekly, but eventually it needs to be completely replaced, so time to machine a new plate to get me back to grinding!
Polishing handles, finishing with some 3000 grit Trizact pads on the orbital sander is the best way I’ve found to get the epoxy ready for the final buff

Handle sanding today. Can’t rush the Maple Burl/Epoxy handles, they’re definitely more challenging and time consuming than solid wood handles to polish, but we’ll get there!

Starting the week by scribing centre lines on blades. It’s a critical step to ensure the edge of the knife stays perfectly straight and consistent

last weekend wraps up my spring shows for 2026, thank you to everyone who came out to purchase some of my work or talk, I really appreciate all of it!
My new chef knife design has been my surprise best seller of the year! After the spring shows I’ve just got one left in stock, which means I’ll be firing up the forge and working on a lot more of these this year!
