🚨 Invasive Species Alert
Brevard County is seeking help to locate Argentine Black and White Tegus, invasive lizards from Central and South America that feed on native wildlife, especially egg-laying species. These daytime-active reptiles can grow 2 to 4 feet long, with large heads and black-and-white patterns as adults, and green heads when young. Sightings in the area have been on the rise lately.
If you spot an Argentine Black and White Tegu, report it by calling the FWC’s Exotic Species Hotline at 1-888-483-4681. You can also snap a photo, record the location, and upload your sighting to IveGot1.org. Don’t try to catch it yourself, and remember—it’s illegal to release any non-native animal into the wild in Florida!
This just cracks me up. Good morning! 🤗

NEW | Another strong aftershock in the Gulf today at 1:37 pm. This one was magnitude 4.9 & stronger than the previous 4.3 aftershock last week.
This is the strongest since the initial 6.1 quake. Though unlikely to have been felt in Florida, it is likely that there was some light shaking in western Cuba or the Yucatan.

Animal intelligence comes in many forms, and some of the most extraordinary brains on Earth evolved to solve very different challenges. From complex communication and advanced problem-solving to decentralized control systems and exceptional long-term memory, these animals demonstrate that intelligence is not limited to a single evolutionary path.
🐬 Dolphin – Communication
Dolphins are among the most socially intelligent animals on the planet. They use a sophisticated system of whistles, clicks, and body language to communicate with one another. Research suggests that bottlenose dolphins can recognize unique signature whistles that function similarly to individual names, allowing them to identify and respond to specific members of their group even after years of separation.
🐦 Crow – Problem Solving
Crows consistently rank among the world’s most intelligent birds. They can use tools, solve multi-step puzzles, recognize human faces, and even plan for future events. In laboratory studies, some crow species have demonstrated reasoning abilities comparable to those of great apes, making them one of the most impressive examples of avian intelligence.
🐙 Octopus – Distributed Control
The octopus possesses one of the most unusual nervous systems in nature. While it has a central brain, a large proportion of its neurons are distributed throughout its arms. Each arm can process information and perform complex movements with a degree of independence, allowing the animal to explore, manipulate objects, and react to its environment in remarkably flexible ways.
🐘 Elephant – Memory
Elephants are famous for their extraordinary memory, a trait that plays a vital role in survival. They can remember migration routes, water sources, and social relationships for many years. Matriarchs often guide their herds using knowledge accumulated over decades, helping family groups navigate harsh environments and periods of drought.
What makes these animals so remarkable is that each represents a different solution to the challenge of intelligence. Dolphins excel at social communication, crows demonstrate exceptional reasoning, octopuses evolved a unique decentralized nervous system, and elephants rely on powerful long-term memory. Together, they reveal that intelligence is not a single trait but a collection of specialized abilities shaped by millions of years of evolution. Nature has produced many kinds of brilliant minds, and these animals are among its most fascinating examples.
