At Rae Rae’s Home Daycare, we love turning everyday items into something extraordinary! This morning, we transformed a simple delivery box into a fantastic box car. With just a little cutting and creativity, this big box is now a vehicle for adventure, storytelling, and endless fun!

Imaginative play like this is so important for little minds. It encourages problem-solving, creativity, and social skills as the kids take turns “driving” and making up their own road trip stories. Plus, climbing in and out of the box helps develop gross motor skills like balance, coordination, and spatial awareness! Not to mention, open-ended play builds confidence and independence!

And let’s be real—by the end of the day, this car might be “totaled” in the best way possible. But that’s OKAY! The joy, laughter, and learning that happened along the way are what truly matter.

Sensory Play Fun at Rae Rae’s Home Daycare!

Today, we had a blast exploring taste-safe sensory bins with cooked oatmeal! One bin had a lumpy texture, while the other was smooth, giving the kids a chance to experience different sensations while engaging in imaginative play.

We turned the lumpy brown oatmeal into a prehistoric dinosaur swamp and transformed the smooth green oatmeal into a wild jungle safari! With toy animals, little spoons, and curious hands, the children explored textures, practiced fine motor skills, and had so much fun getting messy in a safe and engaging way.

Sensory play is a fantastic way to encourage learning through touch, sight, and even taste—all while sparking creativity!

1. Boosts Early Communication: For babies who can’t yet speak, sign language provides an early way to communicate needs and feelings. Babies can start using simple signs (like “milk” or “more”) as early as 6–9 months, which often helps reduce frustration and tantrums by giving them a way to express themselves.
