It's BC Day today! We're looking at Port Hardy. Van Isle 360 International Yacht Race Leg 5 from Telegraph Cove ends here and this is where the first rest day occurs. It's the fleet's first real chance to take a deep breath, repair equipment, dry out, swap crews and refocus.

There's always a great lunch and welcome put on by the community. If nothing is broken and everything is OK people even get a chance to see the amazing sights of the North Island.

Road crews get ready for the convoy to Winter Harbour, and the Fleet gets ready for the beginning of the three big offshore legs.

Applications are open for https://www.vanisle360.com/applications-for-entry-at-7-boats/

It's the BC Day Long Weekend. Leg 4 ends in historic Telegraph Cove. It's one of the most amazing places to visit. On the way you pass one of the very critical habitats for Killer Whales on the coast known as Robson Bight. The cove is surrounded by marinas including our race sponsor .

After a major fire the community is almost completely rebuilt. The 2025 Race raised funds for the rebuild emphasizing how much the race and racers values the communities we visit.

This port of call is not big, and is one of the main reasons why we have limits on the number of boats. There's only so many we can fit into the cove.

If you're a it's time to sign up: https://www.vanisle360.com/race-application-from/

It's the long weekend. Have you heard about Ripple Rock? It's one of the contributing factors to why Captain George Vancouver called Seymour Narrows “one of the vilest stretches of water in the world.” Don't worry, BC made it less vile with one of the largest ever planned non-nuclear explosions.

Leg 2 ends in Campbell River at the very hospitable Discovery Harbour Marina and with a dinner at the then an early morning to catch the slack water through the narrows.

Leg 3 of the International Yacht Race starts just on the other side of the less vile narrows. This leg is one of the hardest legs of the race as the wind is fierce and the current is strong.
