Last nights show is retroactively dedicated to Barbara from New York. The bright young lady sat with her granddaughter Loella on my left side and smiled the whole time. I announced to the room that our next song was Stella By Starlight and there was a loud gasp! I whipped my head around to see who it had come from and she had her hands over her mouth. Then she said “my husband used to play that for me on the piano!” She had stars in her eyes. I asked her name and she told me. I sat down on Kelly’s amp and stared into her eyes and sang the entire song to her. Our eyes both glowed with happy, lovey tears. She kept her hands close to her heart. I could see her mouthing the words and looking over to her granddaughter in delight and wonderment, wanting to share this moment with her. For the rest of the evening, every time I looked at Barbara she looked like a little girl to me, bashful and sweet and not wanting to look away.
After the show we hugged twice and she told me she was from New York. “I go to the theatre all the time!” She said. I sang a number of show tunes like Almost Like Being In Love and she just adored it. Piped right up when I started giving the synopsis of Brigadoon.
People like Barbara make my nights as a performer shine with the power of a thousand suns. I love you Barbara.

I gave her a Rocky and the Gems lighter as a parting gift and she exclaimed “I’m always looking for something to light my candles!” She was so excited. So was I. We hugged again and her granddaughter thanked me for making the night so special.

Can’t wait to see who I meet next month ♥️
