The Spirit of the Land: 2800 McCurdy Road
A Journey from Ancient Waters to Modern Magic
I. The Ancient Guardian: Mill Creek & The Syilx
Long before the roads were paved, this land was a lush sanctuary for the Syilx (Okanagan) people. Sitting on the banks of Mill Creek, our seminary rests on a natural "pharmacy" where the Syilx gathered willow, medicine, and water. The creek behind us is the lifeblood of this property, carrying the ancient energy of the valley's mountains down to the lake. We acknowledge that we are guests on this unceded territory and strive to be worthy stewards of its waters.
II. The Pioneers: The Lofthaug Legacy (1946–2000s)
In 1946, Ole and Olga Lofthaug chose this "wedge" of land between the highway and the tracks to build their life. For over 60 years, the Lofthaugs raised cattle and tended gardens here. They were the ones who first heard the steam whistles of the CN Railway rumble past their bedroom windows.
When you stand in our seminary today, you are standing in a place that was built on the values of sustenance and hard work. The Lofthaugs were the last guardians of this soil before it transitioned into the spiritual home it is today.
III. The Gift of the Water: The Iron Cauldron
In the winter of 2025/2026, the land gave us a sign. Buried deep in the silt of Mill Creek, we discovered a century-old cast iron cauldron. Likely used by the pioneers for rendering lard or making soap, this vessel spent decades "baptized" by the creek.
Here it is, unearthed from its watery grave:

Its discovery at the exact moment Star Sapphire became Canada’s first pagan church is no coincidence. Though the iron is thinned by time and the water, it remains a symbol of transformation and rebirth. It is the physical anchor of our seminary—a bridge between the farming families of the past and the spiritual seekers of the future.
Further along the creek, the elements of magic and intention are evident. This is where we tend to the energy of the land, honouring its natural spirit:

Here, a symbolic gateway to the unseen world is maintained, adorned with offerings to the land spirits, and a hand-crafted besom hangs ready, a tool for cleansing and intention, mirroring the dedication found within the seminary itself.
Help Us Keep the Magic Alive
Operating a seminary and a historical space comes with great responsibility. As we move into 2026, we are working to:
Restore and Protect: Stabilizing our historical artifacts and preserving the riparian area of Mill Creek.
Educate: Providing a safe space for traditional witchcraft and pagan studies in the heart of the Okanagan.
Community: Keeping the "Old Kelowna" spirit alive in an ever-changing urban landscape.
Blessings to all who walk this path.
The Warrior & The Witch
"Spaceman, oh spaceman, come rescue me..." 🚀✨
Most people hear Bif Naked’s 'Spaceman' and think of a 90s radio hit. But when you’ve looked into the eyes of a predator—when you’ve survived the unthinkable—the song becomes a prayer. It’s that moment of wishing the universe would just reach down and pull you out of the shadows.
I’ve had to walk through those shadows. I’ve carried the weight of knowing men who use weapons and intimidation to try and steal a person's light. I’ve seen the 'files,' I’ve known the 10-year sentences, and I’ve seen the footage of people I care about being treated like they weren't human. 🛡️🔥
But here is the truth that Bif Naked taught me, and the truth we teach at Star Sapphire: You are the Hydra. In mythology, every time you cut off one of the Hydra's heads, two more grow back. When people try to silence us with violence or fear, we don't just survive—we multiply. Our voices get louder, our community gets tighter, and our magic gets stronger. 🌙✨
As a witch, a business owner at Magical Mischief, and a survivor, I am here to tell you: The weapon does not own the spirit. You can serve 10 years or 100, but you can never touch the sovereign soul of a warrior who has decided to stand back up.
If you are struggling, if you are being intimidated, or if you are carrying the heavy silence of assault, you do not have to wait for a 'Spaceman' to rescue you. We rescue each other. 🤝🖤

The Weaver of Wood and Water
Jade | Animist, Maker, & Guardian of the Land
I am your metaphysical specialty tool supplier—but what does that truly mean? To me, it is an extension of Animism. I believe in an embodied connection with the natural elements and a heartfelt relationship with every living creature in the web of life. Nature is my sanctuary; it is where I go to stay rooted when the modern world attempts to blur reality.
The Craft: Magical Mischief
I analyze your energy to sense who you are, creating custom-designed tools to mirror your spirit. Whether it is a protection bottle, an altar display, or a traditional Besom (the Ginesta), every piece is a bridge between the old ways and your current path.
In my workshop, a broom is never "just" a tool. Modeled after the hazel and birch ancestors used, it is a symbol of luck and protection. We respect the broom: we never keep it standing (to avoid poverty), we never step over it, and we treat it as a sacred vessel for sweeping away negative energy and welcoming a clean start.

A Journey from Ancient Waters to Modern Magic
The home of Canada's first pagan church, Star Sapphire, sits on land with a pulse.
I. The Ancient Guardian: Long before the pavement, the Syilx (Okanagan) people gathered medicine along the banks of Mill Creek. We acknowledge we are guests on this unceded territory and act as stewards of the "lifeblood" waters that flow behind us.
II. The Pioneer Legacy: In 1946, Ole and Olga Lofthaug transformed this "wedge" of land into a home for cattle and gardens. Their decades of hard work and sustenance form the foundation upon which our seminary stands today.
III. The Gift of the Water: In the winter of 2025/2026, the land spoke. Buried in the silt of Mill Creek, we unearthed a century-old cast iron cauldron. "Baptized" by the creek for decades, its discovery at the birth of our church is no coincidence. It is our physical anchor—a bridge between the farmers of the past and the seekers of the future.
