Tomorrow is the solar eclipse! This once in a lifetime event for many will be amazing to experience!
Join us for a solar eclipse vieweing activity at the community hall from 3:30 to 5 PM!
There will be cake, music and refreshments! We have also ordered solar eclipse glasses for those who wish to view.
Remember, to enjoy the solar eclipse safely, you need to:
Never gaze directly at the sun during a solar eclipse, even when it is partly or mostly covered by the moon.
Use special-purpose solar filters, such as “eclipse glasses” or handheld solar viewers, to look at the uneclipsed or partially eclipsed Sun.
Avoid using materials and methods that may be unsafe.
Looking forward to it with you!

Festival Director and Head Programmer and filmmaker Ashleigh Rains is celebrating her 9th year programming with the Canadian Film Fest!

Don’t miss Ashleigh’s pick for feature and short films not to be missed at the 2024 festival!

“Ian Harnaine’s DOUBLES is a nuanced story about an estranged father and son reuniting in Toronto. Harnarine touchingly captures this complicated relationship while celebrating this city’s vibrancy and diversity, with an awesome soundtrack, too. A strong directorial voice and style, I’m excited to launch the 2024 festival with this film.” DOUBLES opens CFF on Monday, March 18 at 7:00 pm

“Thrilled to have the Toronto premiere of WHAT GOOD CANADIANS DO from director Stephanie Joline. A beautifully animated short, with provocative poetry and performance from Rebecca Thomas. This film encourages audiences to reflect on its relationship to Indigenous communities in Canada, and to listen, think, act. A powerful film in 4 minutes and essential viewing for CFF audiences.” Showing in HOMEGROWN SHORTS 6 on Saturday, March 23 at 2:30 pm

”I really enjoyed being a consultant on this seven panel art mural for the Village of Nigadoo (Hiding Place). Marcel Boudreau did amazing work! Wela’lin for the opportunity to share, and to strengthen and renew our bonds. Supported by the Province of New Brunswick, Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture, there are Mi’gmaq design elements that represent our relationship with nature, how we draw inspiration from this land and how we are in harmony with the landscape and each other. It’s about sharing and strengthening our growth and friendship. I’m really proud to be a part of it.” -Phyllis Grant, Welneweg Arts Collective, Pabineau First Nation 💛

At Welneweg, creation and collaboration is a way of honouring our ancestors and protecting and educating our communities. On March 21, 2021, we lost our dear father, and original founding member, Gilbert Sewell. He named our collective and gave us endless project ideas to work on. Gilbert wanted us to continue the work, and we will do so in honor of his joyful spirit, love of learning and love for his culture and community. He made a difference. Wela’lieg Gilpet for everything you’ve done for us in Mi’gmagi.💛
