Day Five: What the Sunrise Taught Me

As we reach the final day of the sunrise challenge, we’re asked to reflect on what this experience has meant to us. If you’ve been following my journey, you’ll know this is my third year participating—and each year, it touches something deeper in me.

I learned early in life that sunrises carry profound lessons for the soul. On April 27, 1996, I woke to a world forever changed. The night before, I lost my younger brother. I remember lying in bed, heartbroken, unable to sleep. My parents lay beside me and gently said, ā€œYou need to get some rest, Megan. Nothing can change what’s happened. Tomorrow is going to come, no matter what—and we’ll get through this pain together.ā€

That moment has stayed with me. Over the years, each sunrise has quietly reinforced what my parents said: the darkness doesn’t last. No matter how heavy the night feels, the light always returns. There is a deep, steady comfort in that truth—an unspoken promise that even in our darkest hours, hope remains, quietly waiting for its turn to rise.

Sunrises have shown me the beauty of beginnings. Each day offers a clean slate—a chance to start again, to be better, to move forward. The sun doesn’t hold onto yesterday’s storms; it simply rises, casting light on what’s ahead.

They’ve also taught me patience. The shift from night to day isn’t sudden—it unfolds slowly, quietly. It invites us to pause, to breathe, to trust in the gentle pace of transformation. In that stillness, I’ve learned to accept change as it comes.

There’s balance in a sunrise too. It’s never rushed or hesitant—it simply is. Constant and calm. It reminds me to find my own rhythm in a world that so often feels chaotic. To be present. To breathe deeply.

But most of all, sunrises have taught me gratitude. There’s something sacred in witnessing the first light spill across the earth—a reminder of life’s simplest blessings: another breath, another chance, another moment.

Day Four: A Hopeful Horizon
Today’s reflection is about hope—what fuels it, where it comes from, and what keeps it alive.
For me, it’s my family. They’re my greatest why—the reason I push forward, even when it’s tough.

My father was a living example of grit and devotion. Life on the farm taught us more than just how to work—it taught us resilience, patience, and the value of showing up with everything you’ve got.

Every day, I challenge myself to grow—to push past comfort and into discomfort, because that’s where progress lives. I RISE early to lift heavy, run hard, and confront my limits head-on—so that life’s chaos feels a little more manageable. I’m intentionally creating discomfort to build strength.

Now it’s your turn: take a moment to think about what keeps you moving.
Hope is a force—and so are you.

Day Three: Shine a Light on Others | With today’s sunrise, we were to think of someone who’s walked beside you - someone who’s supported your mental health, inspired your growth and inspires you! Hands down that person is my husband We met a few months after I lost my dad to su***de, I was in the midst of all the feels of guilt, confusion, shame, anger, trauma, societal stigma etc. He never once judged, instead helped me navigate those feelings to find a new purpose in life and how could I use those emotions and turn them into positive actions! Morgan is the most interesting human I have ever met, and I’m so grateful I get to sit shot gun beside him everyday. When Morgan decides he wants to do something, he makes it happen. He makes every vision a reality and not just for him but for all of us in his life. With him standing beside me I’ve learned to turn pain into power. I’ve learned the box we sometimes like to put ourselves in, to explore those edges until you realize the ceiling you had for yourself is actually the floor! I’m living a life I never could have dreamt of, and sharing it with our two sons is heaven on earth! I hope my sons watching their mom RISE with the sun day in and day out, they will see SUNRISES are powerful reminders that each day brings new light and sometimes that light comes from the people around us.

It’s time to RISE: the sunrise challenge week begins today! I rise with the sun every day for my own mental health, but this week is dedicated to CAMH and the work they are doing to solve the most complex issues in mental health! I am dedicating my focus this week to the Walkerton community and the profound loss felt by so many!
The boys and I are sending our deepest condolences not only to Jess, Casey, Wade and Lennox but to all those affected by this tragedy. We are sending every ounce of light, love and healing to everyone while wearing blue to show our support to the Walkerton school community! In the face of loss, it’s easy to feel isolated, but know that you are not alone. Our community is a network of love and support! Let’s find strength in each other’s hearts!

Day Two: Find the Beauty Around You | Everyday I RISE and take a mindful moment to notice what’s around me - the colours in the sky, the stillness of the trees, birdsong, the calm in my house before my wild boys wake up šŸ˜‚ In our hectic lives, we often miss the beauty around us. We rush by, distracted and harried. There is beauty everywhere - sometimes we just need to slow down enough to notice it! I challenge you to pause, connect and set the tone for your day!
