Cleveland Clinic Canada is a proud sponsor of and is dedicated to engaging in powerful conversations around improving our health and the health of our communities.
Cleveland Clinic Canada supports Canadians in a variety of ways, including virtual care services, home care and comprehensive health assessments. They also champion healthy companies through a variety of innovative employer benefits.
Thank you to Cleveland Clinic Canada for partnering with us, and for allowing us to continue our discussions with our speakers. Without the generous support from partners like Cleveland Clinic Canada, it wouldn’t be possible to continue to give a platform to the brightest and most innovative ideas that the GTHA has to offer.

Chandra Maracle won’t say that self-care doesn’t exist.
Rather, she says, it is only possible within the context of community care. As part of our partnership series with Cleveland Clinic Canada, we had the opportunity to talk to Chandra about what self-care means to her.
“It seems like self-care has taken on a very mainstream point of view,” says Chandra, discussing the commodification of the concept. However, to her, care – self or community, mental or physical – comes down to the way we exist within our environment. “It comes down to holistic thinking,” she says. “If you understand and completely know that the whole planet works as an interdependent system, you can’t take one thing out without disrupting the rest of the system.”
To Chandra, healthcare is a collaborative effort: “Family, community, doctors, nurses [keep] the care and support coming.” Whether you need physiotherapy or mental health care, Cleveland Clinic Canada’s broad range of services play an important role in supporting all of us as we navigate the ups and downs of our lives. After all, everyone deserves care, and health unites us all.

To Tanya Hayles, true can be an act of resistance. Through our partnership with Cleveland Clinic Canada, we had the opportunity to sit down with Tanya to discuss mental and physical health, parenting, and the importance of and self care.
As the founder of Black Moms Connection, Tanya Hales has created a global community of Black mothers supporting each other. Yet for her, caring for her community starts with self-care.
An important piece of Tanya’s self-care includes controlling her own schedule: discussing the importance of knowing her own priorities, she simply states that “someone else’s sense of importance is not my sense of importance.”. This extends to setting boundaries: “saying no”, she says, “where in the past you may have said yes”, is essential..
Cleveland Clinic Canada’s motto, “Health unites us all”, resonates with Tanya “because without [health], we cannot function. You can’t just buy your way into good health. It’s something you have to work at, and something you have to pay attention to and make time for”. Yet she also cautions against thinking that we all have equal access to the things that promote health. Using the early pandemic “we’re all in the same boat” rhetoric as an example, she states that “we’re all in the same waters—but we’re in different boats.”
Health involves work. It means watching out and advocating for one another as much as it means doing so for oneself. Cleveland Clinic Canada is working to make health more accessible by offering online and in-person health care services around the world. By supporting large and small businesses in improving employee wellness, Cleveland Clinic Canada is helping to improve health on an individual and organizational level.
Thank you to Cleveland Clinic Canada for being a supporting partner in making ’s 2022 event possible!
“I learned from my parents to never give up.”
Dr. Nafiseh Nafissi’s gene therapy research will help us completely cure some of our toughest diseases. In her 2022 talk, she speaks about the challenging conversations she had that led her to fly to Canada and dedicate her life to resilient genetic medicine.
A big thank you to Air Canada for opening doors to the people who want to create an impact and making this year’s TEDxToronto event possible.

In times of uncertainty, we must be adaptable and lean on each other for support. Only then can we turn ideas into action, and transform our systems for the greater good.
As our 2022 sponsor CWB Optimum Mortgage put it, “when you create a culture of sharing and generating ideas, ex*****on is instrumental in empowering your people and their creative spirit.” We’re so thankful to CWB Optimum Mortgage for making this year’s event possible!

As individuals and as communities, we’re getting back to discovering new horizons. Spreading the best ideas our city has to offer wouldn’t be possible without the support of our partners, and we’re so proud that our sponsors for this year’s event include .
As we re-discover the world around us at home and far beyond, Air Canada is there to make the journey possible. When we asked for their thoughts on this year’s theme, Air Canada’s response was that means to “take an existing idea back to the drawing board with an intention to innovate towards an improved iteration. It's a process that’s charged with a particularly powerful sense of forward-looking optimism.”
Thank you to Air Canada for helping to make our first in-person event in two years possible!

Spreading ideas isn’t just about how far the ideas can go—it’s about what they inspire in the people who discover them. As our 2022 partner the YMCA of Greater Toronto puts it, “Ideas are the seeds that create opportunities for growth, involvement, and leadership, which spark positive change and inspire our vibrant communities to shine.”
New ideas spark new beginnings, and new beginnings mean more opportunities for everyone. is made possible by our partners, and we are so grateful to the YMCA of Greater Toronto for helping make this year’s event possible, and for helping us to continue to spread positive change throughout our communities.
“When you’re a parent, be a parent 100%. When you’re at work, be at work 100%.” In this fireside chat presented in partnership with CWB Optimum Mortgage, we got to sit down with one of this year’s speakers, Tanya Hales. In our discussion, the founder of Black Moms Connection shared her thoughts about work-life balance as a parent, and what it really means to “do it all.”
This fireside discussion wouldn't be possible without our partners at CWB Optimum Mortgage, whose commitment to finding world-changing ideas in all the places they grow continues to inspire, day by day.
