We were made aware that some people were having a hard time finding our filed lawsuit to view it for themselves. The file number is CV-25-00003049-0000 and it can be found on the public Ontario Court Registry. You can also search by Baker Construction, or any of the defendants, Kamloops Broncos Football Club, Michelle Peters and Braden Vankoughnett of Kamloops, Sheldon Brown and Cameron Brown of Vanderhoof.

Joining a CJFL team involves several financial commitments. While exact amounts vary by team and location, the following are common expenses to consider:

1. Team Player Fees
Player fees differ from team to team, but they typically start around $900 or more per season.

2. Housing (Billets or Rentals)
If you cannot live at home during the season, you’ll need local housing.
• Billet families: Usually $600–$900 per month for a room.
• Rentals: Prices vary widely depending on the city and housing type.

3. Food and Nutrition
Food costs depend on personal habits and nutritional needs. Teams often estimate roughly $300 per month, though this can increase depending on appetite, dietary needs, and the cost of meat, road-trip snacks and occasional team dinner/ice cream outings.

4. Local Transportation
If you don’t have a car, you’ll need reliable transportation to and from the stadium often six days a week. Options include public transit, rideshares (Uber/taxi), or rides from teammates, coaches, or billet families. Costs vary based on distance and frequency.

5. Travel to and From Your Team’s City
If you live out of the city or province (e.g., living in Ontario but playing for a team in BC), you’ll need to budget for travel to and from the team’s location. Costs depend on flight or travel prices at the time.

6. Additional Personal Expenses
These may include: Cell phone, Clothing and shoes, Medications, Supplements, Laundry Detergent, Hygiene Items and General spending money. These costs will vary by individual needs and lifestyle.

While joining the CJFL is a significant physical and emotional commitment, it is also a meaningful financial investment. Being aware of these expenses and planning ahead can help ensure you’re fully prepared for the 2026 season.

When exploring CJFL opportunities, remember that committing to a team is a significant decision often lasting multiple seasons or your entire junior football eligibility. This is not a try one team for one season and easily switch to another team the next season if you don’t like it situation, the CJFL has player release conditions (they can be found on there website). While coaches recruit players, players must also recruit the right team for their future.

Take the time to do your research and ask the right questions:

✔ Review the Team’s History
• Look at previous years statistics and performance.
• Research the coaching staff—their experience, background, and reputation.

✔ Evaluate Organizational Stability
• Google the team: Are they financially stable, or are they frequently seeking emergency sponsorship?
• Are they involved in lawsuits or court disputes?
• Ask about the board of directors and the support they provide to coaches and players.

✔ Understand Expectations and Culture
• Ask what the team expects from you and what you can expect from them.
• Learn about fundraising the team does and how they fundraise, if they have a fundraising coordinator.

✔ Talk to Current Players
• Get honest insight about the facilities, the coaching staff, and the team environment.
• Do coaches make promises they can’t keep?
• Is the culture supportive and aligned with your goals?

In short: Do your due diligence as a player before committing to a team. A specific team may want you—but do you want them? Once you sign on, switching to another team is not a simple I want to play for another team, there are player release conditions that must be met. Take the time to choose the program that’s truly the best fit for your future.

No. Baker Construction created the Baker Construction Football Sponsorship Program entirely on our own. We don’t solicit or have sponsors. We don’t accept donations of any kind. We don’t have partners.

Every single dollar that goes into supporting players and teams comes directly from us.
We work hard so our football sponsorship program can succeed, grow, and help the players who need it most. Proudly built. Proudly funded. Proudly ours. 🏈
