Your device is not your superpower. It is only a tool, silent and obedient, waiting for direction. If your mind is unfocused, even the most advanced device becomes nothing more than noise and distraction.

Curated by Martin R. Ricketts

Your real power is the mind that decides what the device should do. When your thinking is clear, your actions become precise. You stop reacting to every notification and start using technology with intention, turning tools into extensions of your purpose.

The difference between overwhelm and mastery is not the device in your hand, but the discipline in your mind. Once you learn to direct your attention first, everything you touch begins to work for you instead of against you.

National Indigenous Peoples Day takes place on the summer solstice, June 21. It’s a special occasion to learn more about the rich and diverse cultures, voices, experiences and histories of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.

Toronto is the most multicultural city in the world and it's my favourite thing about living here. The indigenous peoples bring much timeless wisdom and knowledge to life and sometimes get overlooked. So on this day take time to get to know about the First Nations, Inuit and Metis peoples.

Ultimately life is about the expansion of knowledge. Your knowledge, and the collective wisdom of humanity. That is an evolution requiring tenacity and grit, a pursuit worthy of serious consideration.
When we work together, humankind builds a better society, making it safer hi, and providing opportunities for more young people each year. Our ability to connect to people is also the reason I have an apprentice team in Africa.

We have an opportunity to redefine the meaning of work and affect positive change on a global scale. This is the paradigm we encourage the world to embrace and forms the philosophical foundation of Digital Samurai.

It is also important to remember that each and every job that a person does with honour and dignity is valuable to society.
We encourage the celebration of new definitions of work, success and valour as Digital Samurai supports international workers and creators that exemplify these qualities in new ways.

All races, genders, cultures, every individual, all interconnected, all of us one.
Now, isn’t that something worth celebrating?

To maximize workflow efficiency, you need to organize information properly instead of relying on memory or constantly searching for things.

Curated by Martin R. Ricketts

The goal is to build a second brain, a digital system designed to ensure you can access the sites and tools you are working on with the least amount of steps, the least amount of clicks, and the least amount of time. Ideally, you should have instant access to everything within two clicks, two seconds, or two steps. If you find yourself repeatedly typing the same websites into the address bar, you are wasting time instead of using a system designed to make you more productive.
To achieve peak efficiency, implement these four wise practices for Chrome browser management.

First, use permanent Chrome tabs for your most visited sites. You should be using permanent tabs every day because modern computers and internet connections can handle them efficiently. Set up your browser so essential tools automatically open when you start work. I recommend Google Keep, Google Tasks, Gmail, Calendar, Google Photos, Google Drive, Google Slides, Trello, and any other tools you use constantly.

Next, use the bookmarks bar for sites used weekly. Reserve your bookmarks bar for resources you access often but not every day. This ensures these important links are always visible and just two clicks away, without cluttering your daily tabs. (Pro tip: keep the names short so you can fit as many as possible on the bookmarks bar.)
Third, use the new tab page. Use the shortcuts on your Chrome new tab page as a secondary dashboard for other sites you visit regularly throughout the week.

Finally, use the reading list for parking sites you want to look at later. Keep your browser clean and efficient. Do not leave dozens of tabs open just because you want to look at them later. Doing so slows your system and reduces your productivity. If a site is temporary, or if you just want to park it for later, save it to the Chrome Reading List. You can add the Reading List to the Chrome extensions area by clicking on toolbar in your Chrome settings, then toggling reading this to "on."

Beyond your browser layout, streamline how you capture information. Google Keep is the perfect staging area for information coming into your digital world. Make it your central place for notes, reminders, key company information, research, and anything you need quick access to throughout the day. Save important resources in Google Keep or Evernote, utilizing the Chrome extensions for each, and use labels to keep your notes organized in Google Keep.

By utilizing permanent tabs for daily tools, the bookmarks bar and new tab page for weekly sites, and the Reading List for short-term items, you will create a frictionless workflow that saves time and boosts your daily productivity. More importantly, you'll spend less time searching for things and more time improving your messaging, offer, and value proposition for prospects.

You need a clear way to get people into your CRM, and the most effective way to do that is through intentional workflows, automations, and opt-ins. Your videos, courses, and brand voice are your intellectual property, and you should treat them like gold by creating ethical, value driven ways for people to access them. If you don’t control how people opt in and engage with your content, you’re leaving your business in someone else’s hands.

Curated by Martin R. Ricketts

If you don’t control your tech stack your CRM, landing pages, and opt-in flow you don’t truly own your business; the platform does. You must own the customer journey, from the landing page to the explainer video to what happens after someone clicks. Short-term funnel tricks and aggressive upsells might work temporarily, but they often frustrate people and damage long-term trust and future business.

To maximize conversions, keep the opt-in simple at first ask only for a name and email. Asking for too much information too early creates friction and drives people away. As you deliver value over time, you can gradually request more details. When you control the client experience and remove unnecessary roadblocks, you increase conversions, lower your cost of acquisition, and build a stronger, more sustainable business.

Technology should make your work easier, not leave you juggling apps, chasing updates, and fixing problems all day. When your tools don't work together, every task takes longer and every decision feels harder than it should.

Curated by Martin R. Ricketts

You don't need more software. You need the right systems working in the right way. When your technology is organized, connected, and aligned with your goals, you spend less time managing tools and more time creating results.

Technology chaos steals focus. Simplicity creates momentum. The clearer your systems become, the faster you move.

Today, as we honour the emancipation of the enslaved. We commemorate Juneteenth as a moment in history and a living testament to our resilience. Let us remember: decision is the ultimate power. We must do more than talk; we must act. Racism persists, but it should never deter us from making choices that affect positive change.

Curated by Martin R. Ricketts

While we remember our past, let's also focus on the present and future. Let's take this as a call to action for every individual to consider what they can do to uplift the lives of Black youth today.

Yes, . But this affirmation becomes truly powerful when coupled with action. On this Juneteenth, let's shift our focus from discourse to doing - from simply stating that Black lives matter to making decisions that tangibly improve Black lives today, especially those of our youth. Instead of a one size fits all teaching approach, support youth training programs that use targeted learning, taking into account the student's strengths. Let's reimagine the future of education.

Inspirational Black leaders from Martin Luther King Jr. to Mae Jemison, Barack Obama to Mary McLeod Bethune have shown us the power of action. Let their accomplishments be our guide. This Juneteenth, let's commit to acting for a better, more equitable future. Happy Juneteenth! 🎉

Becoming a Modern Samurai is about discipline, clarity, and purpose in a world full of distractions. You train your mind the way a warrior trains with a sword, cutting through noise to focus on what truly matters. Instead of chasing everything at once, you build mastery in the skills that bring the highest impact. That takes a level of introspection most people don't employ.

Curated by Martin R. Ricketts

Learn to balance strength and adaptability. Just as the Samurai lived by the Bushido code, embodying duty, honesty, respect, courage, and honour, you define your own code to guide your decisions and actions as an entrepreneur in the modern world. This keeps you steady even when challenges arise because your foundation is rooted in values, not trends. If you walk the walk, your clients know it.

Above all, you step into each day with deliberate intention. A Modern Samurai is not about fighting battles with others, but about mastering yourself. By sharpening your discipline, guarding your attention, and acting with purpose, you create a life of clarity, resilience, and impact.

The real battle isn’t out there, it’s within. Every time you resist distraction, refine your craft, or choose discipline over comfort, you win a silent war that most never fight. The Modern Samurai lives by choice, not by chance, carving order from chaos one deliberate action at a time.

I live in Toronto, where summers are short, so I try to spend as much time outside as possible. As an entrepreneur, that can be tricky when I’m tied to my desk, but at Digital Samurai, we make it possible to work on any device, anytime, anywhere. This morning, I needed to review posts my team in Africa had sent. Instead of staying indoors, I used Chrome to instantly send the files from my desktop to my tablet and headed outside.

Curated by Martin R. Ricketts

Sitting on the stoop with my shake and pillow, I reviewed the videos without worrying about the tech. The process was so simple that I could focus entirely on the content and my feedback. Using a tool called Dictonote, I recorded my notes on my phone, knowing they’d sync automatically with my desktop. There was no emailing files to myself or figuring out how to transfer them—everything worked seamlessly.

That’s the key: having frictionless systems that save time and let you work anywhere without thinking about the technology. This is exactly what we set up at Digital Samurai, so you can focus on the work you love, design your future, and enjoy the freedom to work wherever you want.

You want more revenue, and that starts with owning your original assets. Your blogs, videos, social posts, articles, podcasts, and content are your intellectual property, and when you treat them that way, you can reuse and leverage them to move your business forward instead of giving that value away for free.

Curated by Martin R. Ricketts

You do that by guiding people to take action through simple MICRO Funnels. Each one uses a strong headline, a short explainer video, and most importantly, an opt in button. That button connects to your CRM, a form, an event, or another owned destination, giving prospects an immediate next step instead of passively consuming your content.

You can also expand by owning platforms like membership sites, courses, communities, ecommerce pages, and live experiences. Tools like Skool make it easy to host content, build community, and still control your email list, while in person events let you deliver immersive experiences tied to targeted offers. When you create and own your IP, you can turn it into multiple revenue streams on your terms.
