Seagull 12-String #8: Restring Tip (Bridge Lock) 🎸

Mini tutorial time.

If your acoustic strings keep slipping, popping, or refusing to settle in, it’s usually not “bad strings”, it’s the install. Here’s how I properly lock a string into the bridge on this Seagull 12-string so it seats cleanly and stays put.

Not complicated, but a few pointers go a long way. That sounds good.

Dry and dull turns warm, rich, and healthy in seconds. A treated fingerboard is a happy fingerboard, it feels better under your fingers, and it looks absolutely unreal when it’s properly cared for.

Love me some Indian rosewood. That looks good, and it’ll sound good too.

Quick update from .

Fret edges filed, fret ends rounded, fretboard cleaned and lubricated. This Seagull is feeling smoother already, and we’re almost ready to button it up.

Coming next: the restring. I’ll show you how to lock the string in at the saddle and how to wind cleanly at the tuning post so it holds tune and behaves.

Simple, calm, and satisfying. Saddles back in, rough saddle tops filed smooth, and we’re turning “ouch” into “that sounds good.”

Little details like this matter. If it feels better under your hand, you’ll play more. That’s the whole point.

Last time, I shaved the neck right at the fretboard edge to remove an uncomfortable “peak” at that transition point. Small detail, big difference in how the neck feels in your hand.

Next on the docket: fret end rounding. Here’s a quick tease of that work, because comfort is everything.

Ben tuned this Epiphone down to C Standard and… that sounds good.

I gave it a quick play test and it feels solid, plays clean, and holds together beautifully even with the lower tension.

When a guitar is properly sorted, it should feel good in any tuning you throw at it (within reason 😉).
