Sid Attard, born in Malta on Sept. 29, 1950, is one of the hardest-working and most successful Woodbine Racetrack Thoroughbred trainers with over 2,200 lifetime wins and earnings of more than $70 million. In 2013, he was inducted into the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame, which celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2026.

Leg 5 of the Bet Ontario Handicapping Contest is in the books and Ryan Willis earned the red shirt for top spot on Saturday at Woodbine - Mohawk Park with an end-of-the-night bankroll of $535.47, followed by Ken Switzer in 2nd ($375.18) and Brad Guthrie in 3rd ($294.77).
All three have qualified for the Oct. 10 championship event featuring $4,000 in total prizes.
There is one final leg of the contest on Saturday, Oct. 3 at Mohawk for the OSS Grassroots Championships. To qualify for the handicapping championship, contestants either have to finish in the top 3 on Oct. 3 or finish in the top 10 of the season-long ranking of players by total bankroll at all six legs.

Blair Burgess, born in Toronto on Sept. 27, 1961, has one of harness racing’s most impressive resumes for training the winners the sport’s biggest races. He is a two-time winner of both the Hambletonian and the Meadowlands Pace, who has also won the North America Cup, Little Brown Jug, a Trotting Triple Crown and had a Horse of the Year in both Canada and the United States, where he is also a harness racing Hall of Famer. In 2017, he was inducted into the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame, which celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2026.

J. Elgin Armstrong, born in Brampton, ON on Sept. 25, 1897, founded Armstrong Bros. farm – one of the greatest Standardbred Farms in harness racing history – with his brother Ted. In 1976, during its inaugural class, Elgin was inducted into the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame, which celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2026.

Congratulations to Ontario-sired Redland Rocket Man, winner of the Grade 1 Little Brown Jug today in Delaware, OH for driver Jody Jamieson, trainer/co-owner John Pentland and his partners Murray Cox and Gary Volpe.
