Route setting, workshops and private training. (climbing, climbing and more climbing).

Originally educated as a biochemist and statistician at Queen’s University, I taught all of the senior math’s and sciences in the private education sector while pursuing accreditation with Association of Canadian Mountain Guides and acting as the Head Instructor/Route Setter at the Toronto Climbing Academy. Having re-entered the academia through the department of Psychology at the University of Toronto and established a number of contacts in the movement training field, I founded “Flowstate”

Yup..........it's been a long time. Circumstantially, it's been kind of tough to post here (or anywhere) without causing problems elsewhere. Fortunately, change is in the works.

Climbers in Ontario: we need your help! « Ontario Access Coalition 10/20/2016

It's important that all local climbers understand............this is about (far) more than just saying you don't want it to happen - the legalise that bans climbing at many locations is already on the books (has been for years) and until the community as a whole can demonstrate it's capable of treating both the land and other users with civility and respect, this is pretty much a done deal.

Concerned about losing the crags?? Keeping them open starts with being concerned about the state of the local community and lending your support to the Ontario Access Coalition

Climbers in Ontario: we need your help! « Ontario Access Coalition The Government of Ontario has been conducting a co-ordinated land use planning review since February 2015, and in its latest draft, rock climbing has quietly come under attack.

Like warriors of old we test ourselves. The battles differ in that they are against our self - our Nature and the bonds of existence - instead of against each other but offer a similar path to immortality.

With those thoughts in mind, take a few moments in the now to honor the passing of a legend and as time moves on make sure to remember their deeds and to share their stories with future generations so that even if the individual has passed, their name can live on.

Old p**n theatre in Toronto to become rock-climbing gym 04/30/2015

It's about time someone opened another climbing gym in this city (??) - what I really want to know is - are they going to use strap ons?? Sorry, sorry - screw ons??

Old p**n theatre in Toronto to become rock-climbing gym It's definitely a step up. On Tuesday, it was confirmed that the Metro Theatre on Bloor Street West – the last X-***ed movie theatre in the city – will be transformed into a rock-climbing gym. Dubbed Basecamp, the gym boasts…

Not sure which has had the biggest impact on my ability to create: the construction, the cold, surgery or having been without a muse......

In the end, it doesn't really matter. The setting starts again tomorrow........

Surface application is finally complete - can hardly wait to get some holds on 'em..........
(which, for those who are as excited as I am, should happen Thursday/Friday of next week)

Wow........there are few things that make me more agitated than watching someone climb like a meathead and/or completely botch a sequence and then having to listen to them gripe about the setting/grading of the climb.

Admitting that there are (more than) a few bad climbs in the gyms these days, next time you get thrashed by an artificial route......take a little responsibility: consider your abilities as a climber and that you may still have a thing or two to learn instead of instantly trying to place the blame on someone else's shoulders.

Grading climbs is kind of like pricing items on a menu: if they're too low, everyone just becomes a glutton; if they're too high no one will enjoy their meal but if you do it just right.......they'll keep on coming back for more and more.

Monty Python - Climbing the North Face of the Uxbridge Road 02/05/2015

Dawn Wall Redux

I think it's been at least 5 days since I've seen anything in my news feed about the boys in Yosemite and that means it's time:

- time to offer respect for the accomplishment
- time to point out that media hoop-lah was likely the last reason they were up there
- time to express the opinion that most of the media coverage was completely mediocre (in every way)
- time to remind everyone that this was not the first (nor likely the last) time that the media has latched on to climbing in a way that deserves to be ridiculed.......
