Warsaw is a story of rebirth 🇵🇱 . Once was described as the Paris of the East, Warsaw was believed to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world until WWII. During the Invasion of Poland in 1939, much of the city and its historic landmarks was badly damaged and after the Warsaw Uprising near the end of the war what had been left standing was systematically blown up and burned to ashes by the German troops. . After the war, a reconstruction campaign by its citizens resulted in today's meticulous restoration of the Old Town, with its churches, palaces and market-place. It is an outstanding example of a near-total reconstruction of a span of history covering the 13th to the 20th century. . . Wandering around the beautiful streets of Krakow, you may notice an area that looks a bit different from the rest of the city. It attracts with its one of a kind vibe, charming streets and unique buildings. You wonder what is this district? It’s Kazimierz – Kraków's Jewish Quarter! ✡️ . Kazimierz has been through a lot in its long history, from being one of the most culturally significant Jewish areas in the world for more than 500 years to get systematically destroyed during WWII to become one of Kraków’s dodgiest and most dangerous districts in the communist era to finally being rediscovered in the 1990s, thanks to the fall of the regime and worldwide exposure through the lens of Spielberg. As a result, Kazimierz has rebounded and now is Kraków’s most exciting district – a bustling, bohemian neighbourhood packed with historical sites, unique cafes and art galleries. The Schindler’s List was also shot here and one of the historical sites to see is the Schindler factory itself. 🕍 . Today, traces of Kazimierz’s Jewish history have not only survived, but also thrived in the form of the district’s numerous synagogues, museums and Jewish cemeteries.
