Just when you thought the cold snap had passed, father winter has decided to package up some Martian weather for us this weekend. With temps feeling like -37C it's best to take some preventative measures.

Got some tips to share, post them here.

Here's what I tell my clients ...

1. Consider adding some additional temporary heat sources in places that you know have pipes running on/near exterior walls.
2. Never turn down your heat (even if you're going to be away).
3. If you haven't already done this, check that all external taps have been drained and water has been shut-off.
4. If you see exposed copper piping close to external walls, insulate them with pipe insulation.

I've heard my clients complain about fruit flies. Here's a solution that I've found to be effective. 2 parts honey, 2 parts water and 1 part vinegar, cling wrap the bowl and poke small holes to let the fruit flies in. It may take a day or so but they will show up and meet their perilous end. Thank you Karen/Jennifer Bruer for the tip.

Improving the curb appeal of this tired driveway took some straightforward repairs, a fresh coat of runway grade sealant and cooperative weather. Bonus: getting to use my ashphalt blow torch.

This is definitely a DIY project (minus the blow torch 😊) for those wanting a low cost option to refresh the look of their driveway. Message me if you have questions.

I saw a bin hack while visiting family and adapted it. The racoons have tried and failed. Score: Raccoons 10 Fil 1 ... I'm so glad to have managed to get a point on the board. Comment if you plan to try this and have questions about this simple DIY project.

Did you know I offered lawn & garden rescue services in the early years? Now my own garden brings me joy after a fulfilling day of demo and renos. That and the fact that the blasted squirrels left a bit of strawberry for me to see (but never be able to eat).

Vacation is great for so many reasons. One of mine is
having the opportunity to check out hardware stores 🤓. On this trip, I've discovered a new tool for squeeky wood floors and I am eager to trial it out on my own floors when I get back. Expect a review in the new year.

My clients have grout expectations for their tiling projects. I guess grout minds think alike. Three strikes and I'm grout-a here.

It's been a busy summer and I'll eventually catch up with new project pictures. Here's me in the process of helping my clients keep their home fires burning and making my daughter proud too.

Belated though it may be Happy Canada day everyone. Hope you and yours enjoyed a relaxing weekend.

We took the time to celebrate Pride, refinish some furniture and enjoy a little downtime before the next big job (basement reno, ensuite bathroom build, bathroom reno and 2600sq ft of painting).
