It's National Volunteer Week and this year's theme is Ignite Volunteerism. We are incredibly grateful to our book club and ChIRP volunteers, without whom we would not be able to run our programming. To each and every one of our volunteers, from the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU for dedicating your time every month to fostering literacy, connection, and hope for the future. Your work makes a critical positive difference in building a stronger, healthier, and more compassionate Canada — thank you again for all that you do!

Thank you to everyone who signed and shared our Open Letter to the Minister of Public Safety, Gary Anandasangaree, regarding Correctional Service Canada's deeply concerning plan to eliminate federal librarian positions and CEGEP funding for incarcerated students in Quebec.

This morning the letter was sent to his attention with over 2,600 signatures from concerned citizens and the support of over 560 business, human rights, and literary organizations. We look forward to his response! You can read our Open Letter here: https://app.box.com/s/byd9b7gqdbwkl39bspthmwyfh1oadgv2

You are welcome to continue sharing our Open Letter, as we are still collecting signatures: https://forms.gle/UnfBfx4HS8amh6gC6

If you would like to take further action on this critical issue, we encourage you to send a letter to your MP: https://app.box.com/s/80alj94cvlepvxmstrbg19atzclvqfh6

Thank you again for your continued support and solidarity as we work to build a safe and strong Canada. Public safety is not strengthened by shrinking the pathways to literacy, learning, and lawful reintegration. It is strengthened by investing in them.
