Oh, hell no. This is a call to all world leaders and communities to stand against this murderous colonial campaign.

Do your research. Everyday, there is more evidence that this supposed “war” is as xenophobic, racist and genocidal as the horrific actions that took place in N**i Germany…right from the mouths of the soldiers, politicians and leaders who are attempting to erase a people, their history, culture and identity for illegal and hostile takeovers of land, resources and seaways.

All hands on deck, friends. We need to unite stronger and fight harder than ever.

“I know what antisemitism looks like and I do not take the issue of violence against Jews lightly. I have monitored, with vigilance, the kinds of speech that Israel-aligned parties are calling “antisemitic,” and it simply does not pass the sniff test.

Let me speak plainly: It is not antisemitic to demand justice for all Palestinians living in their ancestral lands.

The activists who employ this language, and the politics of liberation, are sincere people; their cause is a legitimate and important movement dissenting against the brutal treatment of Palestinians that has been ongoing for 75 years. One can disagree with any part of what these activists say, but they must be allowed to speak safely and afforded the respect their morally serious position deserves. I have learned much by listening and carefully considering the positions of these activists.”

Yesterday, I reposted a video by Shaun King, explaining the circumstances around his banning on Instagram; this was part of a mass action in support of Mr. King's advocacy work for Palestinians and Palestinian journalists calling for freedom from censorship, as they are being banned and shadow banned on IG, while documenting the horrors and atrocities they, their families and communities are being subjected to in the ongoing genocide.

We are collectively witnessing sophisticated and powerful social media platforms silencing users and obstructing access to information in an unprecedented way and then filling that void with deadly and one-sided propaganda. This is dangerous and concerning for anyone fighting for anti-oppression, anti-racism, global equity and justice.

Since yesterday, I have noted several social media posts on different platforms denouncing Mr. King and his work for other social causes, questioning his character and behaviour, particularly in relation to victims of anti-Black violence, fellow activists and appropriation of Black Women's work. There have also been multiple posts defending Mr. King's reputation and career and offering publicly available information as evidence to counter these claims.

While I remain grateful for Mr. King's vocal and visible presence in amplifying Palestinian voices and experiences on a global stage in this dark time, if there is substance and credibility to the allegations against him, then he must also be accountable to those he has harmed. This is the foundation of transparency that we are looking to create in our global leaders and shared society, in restructuring a better world, and in how we build trust and collaboration with one another in community. We are all of us, responsible and accountable to one another, locally and globally.

I will do my best to better research and share information that is mindfully sourced and deeply aligned with my values.

Peace, strength and solidarity,
Ayesha

In yesterday’s post, I spoke of the depth and breadth of hypocrisy and oppression we are up against dealing with equity and human rights issues in DEI work.

My reference was to the experience of adults. This post detailing blatantly racist and Islamophobic actions taken against an 8-year-old child and his family at a primary school (yes, you read that right) in England show that children directly impacted by the genocide and humanitarian crisis are also being targeted.

Imagine a child you love being suspended from playtime and not allowed to eat lunch with their classmates for wearing a pin against an inhumane genocide. A child grieving the loss of beloved family and friends. And then imagine receiving a letter saying that this child is being used as a political pawn and somehow is threatening the safety and security of other children at the school. Imagine then being told that should the behaviour persist, the school would be referring the matter to an anti-terrorism arm of the police.

None of this was done to children and families at the same school who demonstrated support for the besieged people of war-ravaged Ukraine.

Don’t just be outraged or “like” this post. Act. Write to this school. Share this story on social media. Speak up to government representatives. And attach action items to your messaging, like a full and punlic apology from the school administration and anti-racism and inclusion training for said administration and teachers.

This is not a time to be silent. We must continue to amplify the call for a ceasefire and stand in solidarity against Islamophobia and Antisemitism wherever this ugliness arises. In whatever ways we are able, we must continue to work for equity and human rights for all. Please speak up, build movements and build community. We can effectively create change if we are .

Elon Musk’s attack on DEI and the work we practitoners do doesn’t scare me. Based on his right-wing political views and his well-documented lack of personal and professional integrity and values, this kind of vitriol and protection of oppressive systems should be no surprise to anyone.

His words and the movement to claw back the gains we have made for justice, equity and inclusion over the past few years follow historic cycles of change that are not led top-down, but are pressured into existence from the bottom-up. It’s how apartheid was dismantled in South Africa. How the civil rights and suffragette movements fought and won basic human rights in various countries. History is full of just such hard-fought and hard-won victories against unyielding and brutal systems and governments.

Regardless of the 24-hour news cycles of lies and propaganda, record numbers of people are continuing to show up on the streets. We are seeing people make the connections between historical violence and oppression and the inhumane genocide happening before our eyes. The work we do - the work we have been doing - is creating the space for necessary critical thinking and analysis. So many voices rejecting false narratives and amplifying and echoing demands for change are having an impact - that’s exactly why those in power are pushing back loudly and publicly.

What is being clarified for us is the degree and depth of hypocisy and inequity we are truly up against. This is not a defeat - this is a call to stay focused, double down and keep building our movements to dismantle and resist systemic oppression. To keep up the fight for our collective humanity. The facades of “disingenuous” DEI are falling away and at the same time, solidarity is rising and being shown in unexpected places and in undeniable numbers. These networks and movements need to be strengthened and bolstered.

I am holding space for the tremendous grief, despair and exhaustion that we must also acknowledge and process as we continue to do this work. I am here to support you, my DEI family. You matter. This work matters. Lean on me. Love, respect, solidarity.

I am sick to my stomach.

This is not self-defence. This is genocide.
These are war crimes. Do not be silent. Speak up for humanity and human rights for all.

Violence is not the answer. Safety for all. Human rights for all.
