Are you wondering how decodable books fit in Ontario’s new Kindergarten literacy curriculum?

From Curriculum to Practise: Using Decodables in Kindergarten: Join us for this complimentary webinar where we will explore the recent changes to literacy instruction in Ontario and examine how decodable books are designed and used. This webinar also highlights how these texts differ from traditional levelled books. In addition, the session provides practical strategies for small-group instruction and ideas for tracking student progress.

A little bit about Theresa:
Theresa is an Ontario Certified Teacher who taught for 16 years before joining the SyllaSense team. She spent most of her teaching career in elementary special education and is passionate about working with students who struggle with learning disabilities, especially in language. She is a Special Education Specialist, worked as a Teacher of the Deaf or Hard of Hearing, and she has Associate-level training in the Orton-Gillingham approach.

A little about Lee-Ann (author & owner of SyllaSense):
Lee-Ann started writing decodable books when she saw a need in her classroom. Teaching reading has always been a passion for Lee-Ann. That passion is now channelled into the creation of quality educational resources to support reading instruction, which is the driving force behind SyllaSense.

💬 Do your books align with UFLI?

💡 Our books and DECK-odables complement UFLI Foundations, but our Scope and Sequence is a bit different from theirs, since ours was released several years prior. Our materials can be used with UFLI Foundations, but they do not line up perfectly.

As we release new materials, we send them to the UFLI team for review. They analyze each book or DECK-odables card, and place it on their Decodable Text Guide to show where it would fit in their lesson sequence. We have created a SyllaSense-only version of this guide, which has been copied directly from UFLI's document. It is available on our website under "Scope and Sequence."

Note: Our new Green DECK-odables, released in November 2025, are still under review. We will make an announcement once they have been added to the Decodable Text Guide.
