Hey everyone! Mateo here.

Six months ago today, the world shut down. And over the last six months, I've been writing a series of songs from the perspective of different characters dealing with the pandemic. Starting in October, I'll be uploading one song a week to my YouTube channel, featuring some of Canada's top performers.

These songs have gotten me through this pandemic, and I'm so excited to share them. I hope they can bring you a little bit of hope and joy, as we brace ourselves for a second wave.

First announcement of three!

We are very excited to be producing a workshop production of the new musical THE FISHERMAN'S DAUGHTER, with Book, Music & Lyrics by Katie Mills, in 2021!

Katie and I met at Sheridan, where she is currently entering her third year, but we didn't begin our collaboration process until we were a part of 603 New Musicals' writers' intensive together in May 2019. She is a unique new voice on the musical theatre landscape and I am so, so honoured to be introducing her to the world with this piece!

THE FISHERMAN'S DAUGHTER is a fairy-tale fantasy that follows the story of Mira, a young woman growing up in a rigidly traditional fishing village. In this town, the men go off to sea and bring home the fish to eat, while the women stay at home and weave the nets. But when the father of a girl in the village is trapped out at sea during a storm, Mira gathers a crew of young village misfits and ventures out to sea to save him -- despite being urged to stay at home by her fellow villagers.

An epic tale of adventure, complete with mermaids, magical kingdoms and catchy songs, THE FISHERMAN'S DAUGHTER is a spectacular new musical that will delight children and adults alike... but, more importantly, it's also a complex and thought-provoking reflection on gender, ambition, and teamwork.

We look forward to gathering with you all in a theatre, finally, and sharing in the development of this larger-than-life new musical.
