I’ve traveled solo for most of my life visiting far-reaching places and experienced events I never thought I would – a Maasai wedding near Mount Kilimanjaro, a 3500 year old tradition at Abu Simbel Temple in Egypt, a 1000 year old pilgrimage in northern Spain.

One year ago, I was in French Polynesia. A dream that became a reality. 💖

I am waaaaay late in posting about the Camino! But this morning seemed like the right time to share some thoughts with you.
As a tour organizer, one of the delicate balances is getting the right personalities on the trip. And you never really know how it will work out until they all come together. This group....well, it was like old home week on the first night. Tons of laughter, sharing drinks, passing around food and more laughter.
Were there challenging days? Absolutely. Do I wish we could have managed the weather? Yes. After the first few days of sun, there was a lot of rain, and for good measure, some hail and lightning. But at the end of each day, we were the balm we needed as we gathered together once again to laugh, share in good food and deepen our bond with each other.
There was one day in particular that felt more difficult. It had been raining for a few days, we were well into the walk, and people were tired. I arrived first as I ran support for one of our injured. Our group needed magic. And magic we received. The place we stayed that day was an old stone farmhouse converted into a B&B. The owners were kind, helpful and attentive. They had the fire going when we arrived, drinks were at the ready, and we were enveloped in care. We rested. We chatted. We settled into the place. And when we woke up the next day, we were ready to go again.
Clearly, this kind of trip is not for everyone. But what it did, I think, was to show us what we're capable of, the importance of rest, and how strangers can become lifelong friends.
The Camino provides.
Well, I’m on my way to Madrid. 😳 My hotel doesn’t have power but the airport generators are on so I may hang out there for the day. Hope to keep you posted!
