Blood moon over Toronto / please swipe for series π
Photos by / Follow the artist and our page
The artist commented on their post:
"For the very first time, shooting wide with the city in the frame didnβt feel very appealing to me (as my friend would always say to me as a comfort, the city is overratedπ), I ended up with a telephoto lens zooming in to the tip of the tower for bigger and more clarity of the blood moon. I also bumped up the ISO very high to make it bright enough for more details. The blood moon was fading away as it was setting and the sun was rising. We were just lucky enough to catch it aligned before it got lost in the sky. Cheers to a rewarding experience with amazing friends (or making me jealous of their seestar telescopes friends). "
Bravo! A great combination of artistic and technical photography.

Long exposure dreams /swipe for series

Long exposure images are dreamy and benefit from creative editing. Though much of the work is done in camera with long shutter speeds, taking care of the colour grade can have a positive impact. We love these beautiful images from the photographer. Which one is your favorite?
We invited the creator to comment on their process.
Ernie shared the following
Hey thank you team!π
I used to have my main myname_is_ernie account (now closed/hacked)
where I used to share a lot of long exposures and night street photography. My main focus generally revolved around the mood of the scene. In regards to LE and street photography such as my Broadview streetcar wrap around, I was gravitated towards applying more neutral to colder tones in terms of post editing (especially for night and snowy conditions). Iβve felt a cooler tone would emphasize the winter aspect with our Toronto winter streets both physically and emotionally.
Be sure to check out the page of our contributor! Thank you Ernie! π

What do you think about Instagram formats for vertical photos? Do you dislike cropping your portrait aspect images?
Instagram encourages the use of 4x5 images but they recently introduced the option of using 3x4 aspect ratio shots. If you are creative like our contributor Kotsy there are a few techniques to also share the 2x3 original via expanded background. What are your thoughts on this? π€

Framing is a very important part of photographic composition. These images go beyond the regular sense of strong composition by having a component of the frame within the frame. This is represented by the dual upper and lower branches in the image of Leuty lifeguard station.
Arguably the blue sky and boardwalk also act as upper and lower frames. The second image is an image of boats in harbour. There are two sets of foliage framing the subject matter! Quite an interesting composition.
