Oh my goodness! Look at this exquisite, this remarkable, this—absolutely pulchritudinous cheese.
This surface ripened cheese, L’Origine de Charlevoix, boasts an orangy/salmon coloured rind and an exceptionally soft, gooey centre.
The name: “The Origin Of Charlevoix” refers to the cosmic event 350 million years ago when an enormous meteorite crashed into the area, creating the mountainous landscapes and establishing its unique terroir.
The cheese itself is often compared to Reblochon. Which is understandable as they are both washed rind cheeses of similar sizes and shapes. But also unfair and misleading. While Reblochon occupies the old retainer/dirty sock side of fragrant cheese profiles. L’Origine plays on subtleties rather than power. It’s a little bit floral & a little bit gamey. It’s delicate and delicious with notes of cream, a little bit of hazelnut, with just a hint of malted milk.
We love it. We have it. Come in and ask for a taste!
