HAPPY PRIDE MONTH ! I am ready to kick off my favorite month of the year (bday month too !) and grateful to live in a country where I can fully live my authentic self with my legally married partner 🇨🇦😻 the first Pride March was a riot in 1969 against Police harrassment at Stonewall Inn in New York City, and every year since then the LGBTQ+ community has marched , protested, advocated and celebrated our freedoms, rights and struggles. When people ask why we need a "whole Pride Month " I invite you to look at the last slide which is the artwork from the "Expression " single and remix from Washington, D.C. artist and features a collage of LGBTQ+ individuals who have been victims of hate crimes. Homophobia/transphobia is still a disease in the straight and cis community and people all over the world still vote to limit and erase the rights of q***r and trans folk to live and love as equals. 65 countries criminalize consensual same s*x relationships and 7 countries allow the death penalty for Gay people , just for existing . (Source ILGA) . Every day I take up space on this planet as a Black Q***r Woman, Out and Proud . You will find me in the streets , sidewalks , venues and stages this month representing my community and spreading love and joy with all my friends, allies (gay and straight), my trans siblings and q***r fam. Until we can all accept and respect each other equally, the fight is still on, and JOY is the revolution. 🌈🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈
