"The hardest thing about being an emerging creative in Toronto is that we're in Toronto. The creative field here is very dynamic but at the same time it's very polluted by other fields like business, and other things. Ya I just feel like the opportunities here are limited and I think when you're an emerging artist in Toronto you're always going to be an emerging artist.
I think about why they think I can't make it, but that doesn't stop me from trying to become established or a "professional". And I'm not painting as a way of being a professional artist I'm painting for myself. Maybe my art isn't necessarily what people are used to seeing, so that's why one might say that can't make it. Even still, I find that to even be a successful artist, you're always going to want to produce something new and something different and people aren't always used to seeing something even just a tad bit left field because it's not the norm. And there are a lot of trends right now, and I feel like I don't want to follow those trends. so I'm just going to continue to produce what I want to. So they can kiss my ass." -Oreka James

"The hardest thing for me I think is staying true to your work. So like, staying true to yourself while you create work. And knowing when to stop, because sometimes I over do it, paint paint paint." -Marina Carstvo

"As I reflect on my growth as an artist, there has been one man who continues to provide his encouragement and constructive criticism, which has helped shape my perception and flex my intuitive muscle to render the subject placed before me. He has truly provided me with the basic necessities, the stepping-stones, to form and develop the emerging artist and creative thinker I am today. #[insertactionshere]" -Cristina Feriozzo

"Talking to more established working artists, hearing their story of how they got where they are is so reassuring. The best piece of advice that I've received is that any path taken is the right one as long as your stay true to you and follow your gut ! So I guess trusting myself is pretty important too !" -Bree Rappaport

"Currently I have been challenged by a number of different ideas that I would like to focus on. I think that creativity is not a linear thing. It comes from and evolves from awareness and an enlightened higher self. Ultimately your unborn self, the person you truly are. Mostly all my work comes from an intuitive place. Anyways what I am currently working on involves unusual colour palettes, organic shapes and the golden ratio." -Nicole Schachter
