Every colour tells a story.

Walls and trim were painted in rich, historically inspired tones from Farrow & Ball’s heritage collection, while bathroom and bar tiles were selected to echo late 19th-century design, creating a cohesive and era-appropriate palette throughout.

What was hidden became a highlight.

Carpet was removed to reveal original pine subfloors, which were sanded and stained to brighten each space while celebrating the home’s authentic materials. A beautiful reminder that history often lies just beneath the surface.

Sometimes the best design choice is restoration, not replacement.

Original door k***s and latch systems were carefully removed, refinished, and reinstalled, bringing back the patina and character that only time can create.

Purpose-built cabinetry brings both beauty and function.

From the office to the bar and living room, each custom piece was designed to reflect Victorian-era charm while supporting modern living. Thoughtful craftsmanship ensures these spaces feel original, not newly added.

It’s the details that tell the story.

Custom-milled baseboards, crown mouldings, and door casings were crafted to match the original profiles, while panelled mouldings elevate the main floor.

A painted tin ceiling in the office adds subtle texture, blending seamlessly with the surrounding trim for a timeless finish.

Old homes deserve modern comfort, without compromising their soul.

✔️ Knob-and-tube wiring replaced
✔️ Cast-iron plumbing upgraded
✔️ Steam humidifier added

All completed without disturbing the original lath-and-plaster walls, preserving the home’s historic integrity while future-proofing it behind the scenes.

Preserving heritage isn’t about freezing time, it’s about respectful evolution.

From original architectural profiles to period-appropriate finishes, this renovation was guided by one principle: honour what already exists. Every update was designed to feel as though it had always belonged.

Mill Street Project

Built in 1877, the Haines-Reid House is a proud example of Victorian farmhouse architecture and a designated heritage property in the village of Cheltenham.

For Mark and Emily, owners of MDR, this renovation is especially meaningful. It’s not just a project, it’s their family home. With a deep respect for the home’s 150-year history, their goal was to carefully restore its character while adapting it for modern living, creating a space where heritage and everyday life beautifully intersect.

Surrounded by the Credit Valley Conservation, the Niagara Escarpment Commission, the Caledon Country Club, and some of Caledon’s most picturesque farmland, this property was the perfect canvas for a dramatic transformation.

Drawing on British design influences and the homeowners’ eclectic personalities, the result was a richly layered renovation that celebrates history while embracing timeless Tudor-inspired details.

Let’s take a tour inside this stunning home; where history meets modern elegance, and every room tells a story.

Two staircases, one incredible transformation.

We rebuilt both the basement and second-floor stairs with seamless oak treads, spindles, and handrails, opening up the main hallway for better flow and natural light.

Even utilitarian spaces deserve thoughtful design.

This combined laundry and pantry room is elevated by a striking arched oak doorway, bringing architectural depth and timeless character to a space often overlooked.

Seamlessly blending form and function, it’s a testament to how every room in a home can reflect beauty and intention.
