Yesterday I wrapped up a fantastic presentation and evening with the North York Garden Club talking about one of my favourite topics — attracting and helping local birds in our backyards! 🐦🌿
What a fabulous group! So many great questions, stories, and enthusiastic gardeners clearly ready to burst out into the garden now that the weather has finally decided to cooperate! ☀️😂
There was also lots of excitement about our soon-to-open Urban Nature Store in Thornhill, which will help serve north Toronto, Richmond Hill, and Thornhill communities. We couldn’t be more excited ourselves!
Spring is here, the birds are busy, and gardeners are officially back in action! 🌱

What a morning at Biidaasige Park!
Our free Urban Nature Store birding walk wrapped up with sunshine, spring migrants, and enough warbler excitement to make even the coffee nervous. The birds clearly got the memo — show up in full colour and sing like they own the waterfront. Spoiler alert: they probably do.
Biidaasige Park is one of Toronto’s newest waterfront environmental reclamation projects, transforming formerly industrial lands into vibrant natural habitat designed to support wildlife, native plants, pollinators, and especially migrating birds along the Lake Ontario flyway. It’s a fantastic example of how cities can give nature a proper comeback tour — and the birds are responding beautifully.
Huge thanks to Zunahd, our fearless walk leader, who somehow managed to help everyone spot birds that looked, to the rest of us, like “tiny leaves with opinions.”
Thanks as well to everyone who joined us this morning. Nothing beats great people, great birds, and a reminder that nature is never far away in Toronto.

We’re as busy as a gang of squirrels before winter getting our new Thornhill store ready for opening in late June! 🐿️
Shelves are going up, feeders are arriving, and bird seed seems to be multiplying faster than rabbits in springtime.
We’re incredibly excited to throw open the doors and welcome the amazing Thornhill birding community to the newest location.
Whether you’re a lifelong birder, backyard nature lover, or someone who simply enjoys a good chickadee visit with their morning coffee — we can’t wait to meet you.
Stay tuned… the birds already know where we are. 😉
