As of May 2026, Prime Minister Mark Carney and Alberta Premier Danielle Smith reported significant progress on a west coast pipeline project and associated carbon pricing reforms, aiming to unlock over $116 billion in combined investment. This initiative, linked to a November 2025 MOU, aims for carbon neutrality, enhanced Indigenous partnership, and a new bitumen pipeline to British Columbia.
As of early 2026, U.S. states bordering Canada are facing economic challenges in their tourism and retail sectors, driven by a sharp decline in Canadian visitors due to increased anxiety over tariffs and stricter border enforcement. Many consumers are avoiding same-day trips to avoid taxes and duty fees.
Based on Statistics Canada data for the first quarter (Q1) of 2025, there was a significant rise in non-permanent residents (including work and study permit holders) leaving Canada šØš¦
Departure Statistics: In Q1 2025, 209,400 non-permanent residents left Canada, which represents a 54% increase from the 135,360 who left in Q1 2024.

What do you think Prime
Minister Mark Carney should do to restore Canada's image and strengthen the Country?
A Canadian Trump critic has launched a lawsuit to stop the U.S. Department of Homeland Security from
"unlawfully" obtaining his personal information from Google.
The Canadian citizen, who uses an online pseudonym to protect his privacy, regularly goes on social media sites like X to share strongly-worded criticisms of U.S. President Donald Trump and his administration's policies.
The decline in U.S. demand is not being driven by one issue alone. It comes from a mix of practical, emotional, and political concerns. Among
Canadians who say they are less likely to travel to the U.S. in 2026 :
⢠67% cite the political climate and tensions between Canada and the U.S.;
⢠61% cite tariffs and trade tensions;
⢠59% say they no longer feel safe travelling to the U.S.;
⢠48% say they do not feel welcome in the U.S.;
⢠39% point to the poor exchange rate or weak Canadian dollar.
Compared with Summer 2025, safety concerns have become more prominent, and the share saying they are simply not interested in U.S. destinations has risen to 34%, up 10 points. This is no longer just about cost or logistics anymore.
