Heritage Days was made possible by a passionate group of volunteers, as well as a these great local businesses and organizations. Without them, this event doesn’t happen. Thank you to everyone who played a role in this year’s successful event!

A common question we are getting about Heritage Days is regarding the purchase of food tickets.

Although the event is free to enter and participate in the very high quality entertainment and kids' corner, in order to sample the food you will need tickets. Tickets are only available at the event.

Tickets are cash only and are $3 each. Food samples from the 6 food vendors will vary from $3-$12 per plate based on quantity and price to produce.

For example: a spring roll might cost 1 ticket, but a plate of butter chicken, rice and naan might cost 4 tickets.

Kid’s Corner is Back at Heritage Days!

Looking for a fun, creative activity the whole family can enjoy? Be sure to stop by the Kids Corner at the Lesser Slave Lake Multicultural Association’s Heritage Day celebration on Saturday, August 1, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. at the Northern Lakes College Gymnasium. With free cultural activities for all ages, the Kids Corner is the perfect place to explore traditions from around the world while making something to take home. Participants can enjoy hands-on activities such as Mexican Papel Picado, Japanese origami, Ukrainian egg decorating, cultural scratch art, beaded flags, clay creations, and more, or receive a henna design inspired by North African, Middle Eastern, and South Asian traditions. Best of all, every participant will receive a free goodie!

The Kids Corner celebrates the many cultures that make our community unique by bringing people together through creativity, learning, and fun. Whether you are discovering a new tradition, creating a cultural craft, or simply spending time with family and friends, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. We invite you to join us, celebrate diversity, and experience the joy of exploring cultures from around the world through hands-on activities.

On stage at Heritage Days this year will be Empress Mica.

She is a passionate Jamaican dub poet, writer, educator, and mentor whose love for performance began at the age of nine. Her journey into poetry was sparked by her primary school teacher, Ms. Paula Christie, who recognized her gift while she was a member of her dance troupe and introduced her to the powerful world of dub poetry. Under her guidance, Empress Mica began performing both for entertainment and in competitive festivals, quickly earning recognition for her exceptional talent.

She started writing her own poetry in first form and continued to develop her craft throughout high school, performing original works in dub poetry, Jamaican dialect, and Standard English.

Encouraged by her English teacher, Mr. Smith, she represented her school in the Jamaican Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) Festival, earning regional gold medals and advancing to the National Finals. The influence of these two remarkable educators inspired her own career as a Teacher of English and Literature.

During more than six years of teaching at her alma mater, Empress Mica nurtured the next generation of performers by leading Speech and Drama programmes, coaching students to success with her original works, and earning multiple awards as a writer in the JCDC Creative Writing Competition. Although she performs less frequently today, she continues to write and mentor young creatives, believing that poetry—especially dub poetry—preserves the richness of Jamaican language while giving voice to the social, political, and deeply human experiences that connect us all.
