A healthy planet is the foundation of a hunger-free future.

On World Environment Day, the Zero Hunger Project recognizes a simple truth: we cannot end hunger without protecting the natural systems that feed us.

Climate change, soil degradation, water scarcity and food loss are not separate issues from hunger. They shape what communities can grow, what families can afford and whether nutritious food can reach the people who need it most.

Zero Hunger requires more than food relief. It requires resilient food systems, responsible production, stronger communities and global cooperation rooted in dignity and sustainability.

Today, we stand for a future where people and the planet are protected together because the path to Zero Hunger begins with the world we choose to care for.

We are proud to welcome NHDR (Noble Humanitarian Development & Relief), Sri Lanka to the Zero Hunger Project partner network.

Established in 2023, NHDR is a humanitarian organization working to support vulnerable communities through relief, development and community-centred action. Their work spans food distribution, drinking water access, emergency response, housing support, health care, child education, women’s care, orphan care, youth development, livelihood support and poverty alleviation.

🍚 Through food distribution and Ramadan relief initiatives, NHDR is helping families access essential support during times of need.

πŸ’§ Through drinking water well projects, they are strengthening access to safe water, a critical foundation for health, dignity and food security.

🚨 Through flood emergency response, humanitarian relief and community workshops, NHDR is supporting resilience for communities facing hardship and crisis.

πŸ“š Their work in child education, scholarship programs, youth development and livelihood support reflects a shared belief with Zero Hunger Project: ending hunger is also about opportunity, education, stability and long-term community development.

At Zero Hunger Project, we know that the path to Zero Hunger requires local leadership, practical partnerships and solutions that address the full reality of people’s lives. We look forward to working with NHDR to advance food security, dignity and sustainable development in Sri Lanka and beyond.

New Partner Announcement | Iraq

We are proud to welcome Together to Protect Human & the Environment Association to the Zero Hunger Project partner network.

Established in 2005, Together is an Iraqi non-profit, non-governmental organization working across Iraq through its Erbil headquarters and Baghdad branch. For nearly two decades, the Association has empowered children, youth, women and communities through education, environmental protection, health awareness, peacebuilding and sustainable development.

🌱 Together places the Sustainable Development Goals at the centre of its work, connecting climate action, food security, nutrition, community wellbeing and youth participation.

🍎 In the fight against hunger, their approach goes beyond food assistance. Together promotes healthy nutrition, sustainable agriculture, responsible consumption, recycling, reduced plastic use, school and community awareness, and youth-led innovation.

🀝 With experience working alongside national and international partners including UNFPA, Oxfam, Fida International, Save the Children International, IPEN and People in Need, Together brings strong grassroots knowledge and global development experience to our network.

πŸ‘₯ With more than 1,000 volunteers and over 300 registered members, Together is well positioned to support community-led action on Zero Hunger, food security, climate resilience and sustainable development in Iraq.

What does β€œNo Poverty” mean in the SDGs?

SDG 1 calls for ending poverty in all its forms, everywhere. It is about more than income. It is about access to food, education, health care, decent work, safe communities and the support people need to build stable futures.

Progress happens when communities, organizations, governments and individuals work together with dignity and purpose.

At the Zero Hunger Project, we believe every SDG is connected. Ending poverty also means strengthening food security, creating opportunities and supporting people so they can move forward.

Conversations like these matter. They help students ask questions, think bigger and see that careers are not built in a straight line. They are built through learning, resilience, service and the willingness to act on what matters.

Thank you to Ontario Career Lab for creating space for students to connect with leaders, explore ideas and imagine what is possible.

Behind every hunger statistic is a family, a child and a future at risk.

In 2026, 363 million people are projected to face acute hunger, a reminder that the global hunger crisis is not slowing down.

Conflict, climate shocks, displacement and rising food costs continue to push vulnerable communities into deeper food insecurity. The scale is urgent, but it is not beyond action.

🀝 At the Zero Hunger Project, we believe the response must be collective: stronger food systems, better policies, local partnerships and sustained global commitment.

Hunger cannot be treated as inevitable. It must be treated as a crisis we have the power and responsibility to solve.

Today, on World Hunger Day, we pause to acknowledge a truth that the data has confirmed for decades: hunger is not a problem of scarcity. It is a problem of will, of systems, and of collective action.
At Zero Hunger Project, we are building the awareness, partnerships, and policy frameworks needed to make SDG2, Zero Hunger, a reality.

This year's World Hunger Day theme, The End of Hunger is in our Hands, is not a metaphor. It is a mandate for governments, corporations, civil society, and individuals to act with urgency and intention.

If your organization is looking to build meaningful partnerships around food security, advocacy, and SDG2, we would welcome the conversation.
