Thu-it [Truth] starts with Thu-itstuhw [Telling the Truth] - Coming to Salt Spring Island!
June 18th to 21st
Salt Spring Farmer's Institute
Thu-it [Truth] (pronounced Tha-eet) is a self-guided, multi-media walk-through experience that takes you through over 150 years of colonial history — and the impact it has had and continues to have on Indigenous communities, families, and individuals.
Told through archival material, images, audio, and video, and rooted in the stories and experiences of Quw'utsun' Elders, Thu-it invites participants to reconsider what they were taught, and to discover Thu-it — Truth.
The exhibit first ran in Duncan, BC in the fall of 2022. This weekend, a condensed version comes to Salt Spring Island for a limited four-day run during the Salt Spring Indigenous People's weekend.
Erich Kelch, project coordinator for Parks Canada, shares the vision of how Parks Canada hopes to help restore and maintain the Fulford Sea Garden and other sea gardens in the Salish Sea.
Hear from Phil Tom of the Tsartlip First Nation and Knowledge Weaver at the W̱SÁNEĆ Leadership Council share what fuels his passion for restoring the Fulford Sea Garden and how it helps connect many local First Nations families.
The Foundation is celebrating Indigenous History Month with the revitalization of the Fulford Sea Garden! Watching the garden slowly reveal its rock wall during low tide feels a bit like watching Atlantis rise out of the ocean. This feat of food production engineering is a mesmerizing sight to behold. Hear Mark Sampson of Tsartlip First Nation talk about why this work is so meaningful for generations to come.
