Wrapped up a fantastic day on the Miramichi River today with my new friend Rafael Menezes

The striped bass fishing was exceptional. Thanks to the cloud cover, the topwater bite stayed strong for nearly three hours, and we were able to intercept numerous schools of bass moving to and from the spawning grounds. By the end of the day, we had landed approximately 60 fish, with plenty of quality bass mixed in. Check out these locally made top water !

This marks my final day on the Miramichi this spring. With water temperatures climbing, I’d like to leave these fish alone and give them the best opportunity for a successful spawn and strong survival rates. That said, the fishing should remain outstanding for at least another couple of weeks for anyone planning a trip.

As another successful Miramichi Striper Cup season comes to a close for me, I want to extend a sincere thank you to all of the Striper Cup sponsors, local businesses, hotels, restaurants, guides, volunteers, tackle manufacturers, battery suppliers, truck suppliers, tourism partners, and everyone else who helped make both the Striper Cup and the entire spring striped bass season such a tremendous success. Your support is greatly appreciated and plays a huge role in making this fishery and these events so special.

Now it’s time to shift gears and clean up all my gear and boat ! Then focus on smallmouth bass fishing on the St. John River, particularly around the Destination Nackawic and Woodstock areas. I’m looking forward to a great summer chasing bronzebacks on some of the best smallmouth water in the country.

I’ll see you all back here in the fall when we return to intercept these same striped bass as they make their way back from their ocean haunts and begin their migration upriver once again.
