Studio Bee

This detail of one of my pieces is still one I love most. I have it as a screensaver on my computer.

Finally got a shot of the natural bark frame I used for the piece I did in March. It was so suited to the person I was going to do the art for that I bought it before I even knew what I was going to paint. The frame inspired the art. What also delighted him when he got it was the matte. I hadn't wanted to make the image any smaller than the given space, so I based my solution on the animation technique of visual layering. I did a Papierschnitte/Scherenschnitte of grasses, leaves and branches to use as a matte, thus allowing the image to poke through and add another dimension.

I feel lucky to have grown up near a historic site. Back in my younger days, Fort Chambly was more of a ruins rather than a museum. Either way, it is a touchstone to the past.

Just resanded and oiled a sculpture I did back in 1981. It belonged to my parents, and the years of handling with rings and fingernails and bumpings had left many nicks, scratches and dings. Now it looks almost new again and will head off to its new home. I'll post some shots of other angles when daylight comes round again.

Parts of my garden that bring me joy. I love woods and shade, so I have lots of woodsy areas. And paths. And rocks...

The garden is all the art I can do these days.

I had over 200 photos...close to 300, of course. All that was whittled down to what truly struck me the most from Escher's art that is not as famous...the more illustrative work. I figure everyone can see the most known work by googling his "impossible" arts, and transitioning, tessellated pieces. This exhibition has over 150 pieces of his original art, as well as art associated with his, and art appropriating his. There were a few interactive rooms, panels that were super informative, private photos I had never seen, all in a beautifully designed space where even the floor was reflecting him. All the things that have needed doing more than art itself are getting done. Soon I will be more like Gruber...totally rested. And then art will begin again.
