Saskatchewan's freeze-thaw cycle is the real culprit. Water gets into the soil under your concrete, freezes, expands, then drains away when it thaws. Every spring you are left with voids underneath, and gravity does the rest.

Here is what polyurethane foam actually does down there. We drill a hole about the size of a quarter, inject the foam, and it expands to fill every void before hardening into a stable, load-bearing base. The slab lifts back to level, often before lunch.

Why foam instead of the old mudjacking method? Mud slurry weighs around 100 pounds per cubic foot, which is part of the weight that pushed the slab down in the first place. Polyurethane weighs roughly 4 pounds per cubic foot, cures in about 15 minutes, and will not wash out the next time the ground saturates.

Polyurethane foam takes a different approach. It is light, cures in minutes, and adds almost no load to the soil underneath. For driveways, pool decks, garage pads, or any slab where soil movement is the real cause of the sink, that lighter footprint matters. You can usually drive on it the same day.

Neither method is automatically the right call. Budget-conscious repair on solid ground? Mudjacking still earns its keep. Slab that keeps moving with the seasons? Foam is built for that fight. 👷♂
