At Mercer Safety, we are committed to helping organizations create safer, healthier workplaces. We provide expert consulting, training, occupational health, and industrial hygiene services to organizations across Atlantic Canada.
We are currently seeking a part-time Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) Trainer to join our growing team. This role is ideal for a safety professional who enjoys working with a variety of clients, solving complex workplace challenges, and making a meaningful impact on workplace safety.
As an OH&S Trainer, you will:
- Deliver occupational health and safety training programs to clients throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. Programs include, but are not limited to:
o WorkplaceNLβs Fall Protection, Confined Space, Powerline Hazards, Traffic Control Persons, MSI, OH&S Committee Level 1 and 2, and Supervisor Health and Safety
o First Aid (St John Ambulance)
o Other programs non-regulated: H2S Alive, lockout tagout, mobile elevated work platform, forklift, crane (overhead or pedestal), rigging and slinging, etc.
- Facilitate classroom, practical, and site-based training sessions.
- Evaluate participant understanding through written and practical assessments.
- Ensure training programs meet applicable legislative, industry, and accreditation requirements.
- Maintain accurate training records, reports, and documentation.
- Assist with course development and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide exceptional customer service and build positive relationships with clients.
- Travel to client locations throughout the province and Atlantic Canada as required.
- Support consulting projects and other safety-related initiatives when needed.
Qualifications & Experience
- Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field
- Several years of experience working in occupational health and safety
- Strong knowledge of provincial and/or federal OH&S legislation
- Experience supporting or managing safety programs in industry
- Experience with PRIME and/or COR certification compliance is considered an asset
- Excellent communication, training, and client relationship skills
- Strong problem-solving and organizational abilities
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple client projects
- Ability to complete travel assignments, and work flexible hours (evenings and weekends are a possibility)
