The perfect drink to warm you up on a snowy day: Mexican Cinnamon Atole! We used an SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) light to take this photo. Not bad, eh? This kind of light helps you stay cheerful in the winter, but we found another use for it.

🌶🌶🌶These are pure heat! Habanero and Scotch Bonnett peppers look much the same. Both are seriously hot and a little fruity. Scotch Bonnett peppers are sweeter. In Caribebbean cuisine it is often paired with tropical fruits. Habaneros are a favourite pepper in Mexican salsas, often charred on the pan along with tomato and onion.🌶🌶🌶

Tacos for breakfast? Yes, please. You can buy corn tortillas at Latin stores, Asian stores, and many standard grocery stores. If you have some extra time you can buy the masa and use a tortilla press and make them yourself. It's great fun for the kids. Scrambled eggs with oignons, peppers, asparagus, spinach, and tomato with a crazy hot habanero salsa.

taste_image Everybody loves a nut (in the words of Johnny Cash), but a pistachio might be the most loved of all.

taste_image Mexican porc adobo tacos. A favourite dish for many Mexican families. Mexican adobo sauce is made with ancho chiles. Beef, goat, chicken, and fish can also be cooked in this sauce.

Such a delicious, yet little-known vegetable. Jerusalem artichoke (topinambur en français).

Pozole night! We get so excited about eating pozole (also spelled "posole"). The kids love this food as they get to add many of the ingredients themselves (radishes, onions, lettuce, oregano). Such a great comfort food for a cold winter's night. This soup is a favourite meal in Mexico. There are lots of variations: usually it is made with pork, but in some places with chicken, shrimp, or oyster mushrooms (as a vegetarian option).

Local Flint corn. Could I use it to make tortillas?
