The Death of OTP: Can Wholesalers Power the Age of Intelligent Authentication?
Digital identity is being rewritten in real time. The era of SMS OTP is fading as fraud, AI-generated identities and new regulations push the world toward smarter, seamless authentication. Power is shifting to device-based passkeys, government identity wallets and real-time network trust signals. Unless telcos and wholesalers act now, big tech and wallet providers will own the future identity layer.
Networks remain the only source of truth that fraudsters cannot fake. The industry must urgently standardise identity APIs and create clear commercial models. Those who move quickly will shape the new identity economy, while those who hesitate risk being left behind.
