I've been quiet for a while, but for good reason!

At the end of September, this guy joined my household. It's meant that a lot of things are on hold for the moment, but this is a wonderful adventure to be on!

Unfortunately Facebook and Instagram are still giving me issues - I have updated my name in both places and tried to unlink and relink the accounts but it is still showing the old name for Instagram in my Facebook links.

Hoping to have it sorted out soon, but my handle is the same in both places,

Eco-friendly stuffing? How can that be possible?

All of my items, aside from custom commissions, contain a certain amount of "recycled" stuffing. Essentially, all the little bits and pieces of scrap fabric are gathered up and then chopped up into smaller pieces. The stuffing is in no way used or dirty - it's just comprised of the bits and pieces that would normally be thrown out as they are too small to work with.

The result is a denser filling that I typically mix with polyester stuffing in order to stuff each item. For things like brooches, I find that denser stuffing is actually a good thing.

This is another part of my 2025 commitment to being as close to zero waste as possible, but I've actually been doing this since last year.

I've been cocooning for most of January, as I typically do every year. However, I've been thinking about the direction I want to take MythiFelt in.

One of the decisions I made was that this year I am focusing more on sustainability. The main medium I work with is felt, and one of the most common types available is unfortunately acrylic felt. Acrylic felt is, of course, ultimately made from plastic.

One of my favourite brands of felt has been Kunin's eco friendly line, which is made in New Hampshire from recycled plastic water bottles. And while recycled plastic felt is more planet conscious than other types of acrylic felt, there is always a cost to the planet when materials are recycled.

There are two other options for felt; wool blend and pure wool. They both have benefits and drawbacks. I also have found it more challenging to find reliable suppliers for 100% wool felt. However, I am pleased to say that I am ready to make the shift away from using acrylic felt. It will be a gradual one, as in the interest of not wasting what I already have (which I feel would go against the idea of sustainability) I will continue to use the materials I have.

The new felts I intend to use are both 100% wool and wool blend. The wool blend is made from 25-30% wool, with the remaining being rayon. While I acknowledge that rayon is not a highly sustainable fabric, I still feel that this is a step in the right direction.
