During snowy winter evenings the view of Downtown from the Old Port evokes a dystopia scene. The skyscrapers hidden in the mist, the streets deserted, no noise to be heard except the howling of the freezing wind which make my fingers numb and clumsy, while I seek to capture the atmosphere with my camera.

I believe that black and white photography is very suitable to capture winter in Montreal or pretty much any other big city. The white snow is adding a contrast to the black of the night sky, the grey of the clouds and the almost empty streets with its dark buildings. During this time of the year only on rare occasions a sunny blue sky appears to cheer us up.
Having this said as an introduction, I hope you will enjoy my winter black and white series, starting with a view of Old Montreal which definitely has a very European touch.

2020 was a year full of surprises which didn't went at all as planned but I am very grateful for the uncountable happy moments of love and care with my family, my husband and friends - despite all odds. After all it was a year of many life lessons and personal growth. Now I am looking forward to a new year full of opportunities.
May the company of loved ones, the kindness towards yourself as well as others and the beauty of our planet, make the new year a happy year for all of you!
To the magics of love, care and new beginnings! ✨

It has been already two months since I got up around 5.30am to see the sunrise from top of Mont Royal. At that time it was already freezing with a temperature of - 3°C and the stairs heading up to the view point were quite slippery but my effort was rewarded with an amazing experience! I have returned there a couple of times since then but it's hard to compete with the warm light of the morning sun. This morning was definitely one of my highlights in Montreal.

During autumn Montreal's squirrels were busy looking for food. I loved to watch them during their food search in the parks or even from our window. Now they are fat and fluffy - ready for the cold months!

The Beaver Lake or Lac aux Castor – how people here call it in French – is a popular spot for weekend outings. It is located very central in the Parc Mont Royal and enchants visitors with a colorful scenery during autumn.

Throwback to the autumn colours at Mont Royal a few weeks ago... The world felt more kind in warm red, orange and yellow shades.

The Cimetière Mont-Royal is a beautiful and peaceful resting place for those who past away. The names on the tombs are reflecting the multicultural background of Montreal’s inhabitants which makes this cemetery very special and unique.

As the weather is getting greyer and colder, here are some memories of sunny autumn days to keep us warm and happy for some time.

The autumn colours in Montreal are just amazing! However, with the first minus temperatures this week, we will have to say goodbye to this view and welcome winter very soon.
And I better hurry up, posting my autumn photos. 😅

Looking up to the sky in Downtown looks like this. Rather intimidating in my opinion... 😅
