This is what can happen if you fail to install a pre-motor filter. This filter is extremely important for operating bag vacuum. Because in the case of bag failure, such as a rupture (picking up broken glass, etc.) or misalignment, this filter will capture most of what bag cannot. Of course, the filter is only an emergency aid and you should never operate your vacuum without a bag.

Be careful to not pick up water with your home vacuum cleaner. Only certain commercial units designed for wet & dry cleaning. This Aerus Electrolux vacuum wasn't, and here's the result.
Even if you don't pick the water up intentionally, sometime it can be hidden, like in the case of being spilled on a thick carpet and not seem while vacuuming...
This unit got a new motor. Well, the old was about 40 years old anyway... 😁

It is recommended to bring your vacuum cleaner for a tuneup every 3 - 4 years. A tuneup helps to extend the lifespan of your unit. It is always better to prevent a problem than repair. An example shown here is electronic panel of a cordless vacuum. If it goes out of order, the repair may be very costly, provided the part is available. In most cases, the electronic panel isn't available
