AST PROGRAM
Overview:
Automotive Service Technician Level 1 means a person engaged in the repair, adjustment and replacement of mechanical and electrical parts of automobiles and light trucks. Technicians would be able to diagnose automotive systems, perform routine maintenance, assess, replace components, rebuild and adjust a variety of automotive components as related to Level 1 competencies.
Program outline:
The Riverside College AST foundation program covers the competencies specified by the Industry Training Authority (ITA) for Level 1 of the 4-Level Automotive Service Technician Apprenticeship program. Apprentices receive technical and practical training related to diagnosing and repairing driveline systems, electrical systems, steering and suspension, braking, control systems, restraint systems, tires, wheels, hybrid and electrical vehicles. In addition, body components, accessories and trim. Safe work practices and appropriate tool usage are emphasized and reinforced throughout the program as related to the automotive service industry.
The program uses a combination of teaching methods and applied sciences including but not limited to, Lecture, written, demonstration, discussion, group, hands on and online modeling.
