Bill C-14 includes a number of measures Ontario has long advocated for to address repeat and violent offending and strengthen public safety.
While this legislation represents progress, implementation will be critical to ensuring these reforms deliver real results. We also note that mandatory minimum penalties, one of Ontario’s longstanding recommendations, were not included, and more work remains to strengthen accountability for repeat and violent offenders.
Ontario will continue advocating for measures that support victims, strengthen public safety, and build safer communities.

Every stolen vehicle represents a family, a victim, and a community impacted by crime.
The arrest of four individuals allegedly connected to a violent auto theft group, along with the recovery of stolen vehicles, a loaded firearm, and illegal drugs, is a testament to the hard work of York Regional Police and their policing partners.
Thank you to the officers involved for their dedication to keeping our communities safe.

A productive discussion with the team at Hope Place Centres alongside Joseph Racinsky, MPP for Wellington–Halton Hills, on the progress of their expansion project and the vital services they provide to individuals seeking recovery and support.

At the 21st Annual Canada Used Car Week, hosted by the Used Car Dealers Association of Ontario at the Delta Hotels Toronto Airport & Conference Centre, I joined industry leaders to discuss the state of the used vehicle market.
Key topics included affordability pressures, supply chain challenges, and evolving consumer needs, as well as Ontario’s ongoing efforts to combat auto theft and vehicle fraud. Since 2023, vehicle theft in Ontario has declined by 36%, reflecting coordinated work with law enforcement and industry partners.
While progress is being made, continued collaboration across government, policing, and industry remains essential.
Thank you to UCDA for hosting this important discussion.
