As we wind down on events, our team had a chance to visit Frannie Potts mural production at Mimico Square which celebrate the intersection of lakes, rivers, and oceans, and our shared role in protecting and conserving these waters as a community.
The mural is produced as a part of Ocean Week Canada celebrations.
What better way to end than by dancing on it together as a community?

Happy World Environment Day!
We hope you can take some time today to appreciate the natural world around you!
The United Nations started this global celebration in June 1973. Every year, it's a unique theme with a different host country.
For 2026, the focus is on climate action, with Azerbaijan serving as the global host.
This day is an annual reminder to raise awareness about the serious challenges facing our planet and to take meaningful action to protect it.
As this day is also in the middle of Ocean Week, it is a perfect time to reflect on how our everyday choices impact our massive aquatic ecosystems.
You can start taking action against climate change right from your own home. Here are a few ways to make a difference:
- Reduce your overall consumption and waste.
- Maximize energy efficiency in your daily routines.
- Support local organizations working to protect the Earth.
Every small habit contributes to a larger collective impact. Let us use today to recommit to safeguarding our blue planet.

Celebrating the International Day for Biological Diversity!
Biological diversity is the variety of all living things and the ecological patterns that they form. First created in 1993, the International Day for Biological Diversity was made to bring awareness to declining biodiversity, and to try and bring people together to help improve it.
Each year, there is a different theme for the day, to encourage different aspects of biodiversity to be considered. The 2026 theme is acting locally for global impact! Your local biodiversity is the variety of living things in your area and their interactions.
If enough people are encouraged to learn about and help biodiversity in their local area, then the biodiversity around the world will improve tremendously!
Consider doing things like researching species that live in your area, planting native plants, and telling the people you know about what you've learned and how they can help!

This past Saturday, we at Oceanic Impact were honoured to be invited to participate at Science Rendezvous at the University of Guelph-Humber. Our team of 7 hosted 3 learning stations and educated hundreds of individuals on topics including whales, ocean sound and noise, Canadian marine species, sustainability fisheries, ocean art, and many other activities.
Huge thank you to staff and students and for organizing this amazing event!
The event emphasized the need to be adaptive and agile, and we are incredibly proud of the team for quickly being able to adjust the format of one of our modules to adapt to that of a lecture hall, set up a new station to help drive traffic, adjusted the level of difficulty of our games based on our audience, coming up with unique prizes...
We look forward to continuing to be leaders in ocean education in the area and ramping up our planning for Ocean Week Toronto (June 1-8) of !

Did you know today is Endangered Species Day?
This day was first launched in 2006 by the Endangered Species Coalition to raise awareness for endangered species and to honour and acknowledge the Endangered Species Act.
Animals and plants can become endangered for a variety of different reasons. However, the primary reason for a species becoming endangered is due to direct or indirect human influences, such as overfishing, habitat destruction, or pollution.
You can help endangered species by reporting their sightings on citizen science apps, such as iNaturalist, and learning more about at-risk species in your area and how you can help them.
Celebrate the day by going to a zoo or aquarium, volunteering for conservation groups, or letting someone else know about the day!
