EV vs Gas - How Much Is The $aving$ 🤓
Comparison of a MB GLC 300 4Matic vs a Tesla Y Long Range per km of driving
MB - combined city and highway fuel consumption rating is 10 liters/100km, average one week price of premium unleaded is $1.78/liter. 1.78 x 10 / 100 = $0.178 per km
Tesla - combined city and highway fuel efficiency rating is 17.3kWh/100km. Price of a kWh (kilowatt hour) in York Region including delivery, transmission charges and line loss adjustment is $0.09985 off peak (7pm - 7am). 17.3 x 0.09985 / 100 = $0.0173 per km. If charging during peak hours - 17.3 x 0.1911 / 100 = $0.033 per km
So for the Mercedes you are paying just less than 18 cents per km of driving in gas, whereas you pay anywhere from 1.8 to 3.3 cents per km with the Model Y.
Now I know some will say that you can use regular gas, and yes although it's possible for an occasional fill up with regular, you can potentially incur engine damage with extended use of regular gasoline. They stipulate premium gas for a reason, especially with these smaller turbocharged engines today.
Even if you had a more fuel efficient car, let's say half at 5L/100, that would still be 9 cents per km. Still 3 times the cost of a Model Y
