No words can make this better. But perhaps the power of a community to surround these young boys with love and strength can ease the pain. These boys I know will have more than one stand in dad, who will continue their father's legacy of raising them to be strong, resilient, capable community contributors.
Rest easy Justin. Thank you for every ounce of integrity and hard work you put out into this world in the flesh. Please let your energy protect your boys and all your brothers and sisters who walk the dangerous blue collar life.
"A Tragic Loss in Our Marine Community 💔
Last week, the Ontario Shipyards family—and all of us—lost one of our own. Justin Smith, just 29 years old, was a welding supervisor and a proud marine worker in Hamilton and Port Wellar. He was also a single Dad doing everything he could to build a future for his two beautiful, young boys, Jaxon and Jacob.
In the wake of this unimaginable loss, a GoFundMe trust fund has been set up to support his children. Justin was a hardworking tradesman, a dedicated father and son/grandson, and a proud Ship Ju**ie.
If you can spare even a few dollars, please consider donating. On a platform this large, small acts of generosity can make a powerful impact. I know how many kind and caring parents, industry professionals, and human hearts are here—and how many of you would do the same if this were your friend, your coworker, or your son.
Please give what you can, share the link, and help keep Justin’s dreams for his boys alive. ❤️
If other groups share this post, we can stand together as a community with one solid goal - to provide a future for 2 boys who are facing an incredibly difficult time. People who worked with him have shared such kind words about him in private, please share photos and words in this post if you feel comfortable." Holly Bonney Brookman

Hi all, I commented this on a post and felt it was valuable to share across the board.
The post was pertaining to welders being laid off during this slow time because of the economy, tariffs all the different things that are slowing industry down right now... This may not be for everyone. Whether you go into engineering technology or go back to welding the tangible, it will expand your knowledge and ability to produce quality. Learning more process applications and controls can only make you better. AND Why not spend some down time enhancing your skills.
Original comment below.
Time to expand your skills... I highly recommend the 3-year welding engineering technology programs at Conestoga College. With whatever training you have you might be able to get exempt from first year with your experience. Don't quote me but the best part about the 3-year technology programs are that your skill in the welding industry expands vastly from the working directly with an engineer as a technologist to being the engineer in your job title. Or being a weld supervisor, Inspector, foreman, lead hand, sales, r&d, so many opportunities. People coming out of these programs are being scooped up before the classes are finished and getting work. They have the ability and skill to be the people welding but they also have pretty much everything else in between the tangible application to the design and engineering. I've even heard of some people finding funding that can cover some of the costs if not all for the programs. Everyone is unique and would have to go and start digging into find their paths.
Added➡️This type of training enhancement can help put you anywhere you want to be in industry. Pretty much give you the ability to apply for almost any welding career job out there.
