Fossil fuel investments are a risk for both investors and the planet – we’re calling on TRU to divest from these companies.

Divestment is the opposite of an investment – it simply means getting rid of stocks, bonds, or investment funds that are unethical or morally ambiguous. Fossil fuel investments are a risk for both investors and the planet – we’re calling on TRU to divest from these companies and to preserve both the integrity of our university and the health of our local environment. What a week! From posters, T-shirts and websites, to being present at events with David Suzuki and Naomi Klein, the Divestment team has grown so much in such a short amount of time. We would like to thank all our volunteers, signees and supporters for helping us throughout this busy week, as well as members from the TRU ECO Club for their team work and donations.

Here are some Divestment volunteers at Kamloops Code Blue's David Suzuki event. Keep your eyes open for the Divestment team on campus and for future events of our own, chances are you will be seeing us very soon!

Prior to the Common Voices lecture, the TRU Divestment Committee met with Naomi Klein for a brief discussion on sustainability, environmentalism, and the importance of organizing within the context of decolonization. Our time with her cemented our view that relationships with fossil fuel and mineral extraction giants like Kinder Morgan and KGHM are hazardous both for our institution and environment.

We would like to thank Naomi for her dedication and contribution to the Land, the Water, and young people organizing everywhere.

We will continue the struggle against the entities that put profit over people and capital over community. Divest!
